Thinking of trying something new. Heard they sound better at high volumes than the celestion v30s. Especially heard that they arent as harsh. THATS my concern!

The sad thing though, is that EV no longer makes the EVM 12L and 15L speakers for musical instruments. --I currently don't have access to a 12L, or their older alnico speakers, so I'll have to sit this out for now.

You can pick up a reissue 12L or the 12L Black Label. The also show up used on the bay.

I have a Boogie 1x12 thiele with an EV in it. I'm not sure what model, it's whatever Boogie was using ten or so years ago. Anyway, I personally don't like the sound of my Diezel's in it. However I don't play at really high volumes so that may be why? For that matter, I never liked it with my old Mark IV either? Right now my favorite combination is my Einstein into a 1x12 mesa open back with a C90 and my Herbert through a mesa traditional 4x12 with V30's. They don't sound at all harsh to me probably because I don't play extremely loud? I also have a stock Marshall 1960B that sounds great with my Boogie amps but sounds like crap with both Diezel's to my ears. Anyway, just my experience with what I have.

BTW, kudos to you & your band. Your band & Andy Woods' band are my favorite bands on rig-talk. I really dig your phrasing!

Mesa traditional 4x12 with V30 sounded harsh to me at any volumes, Boogie 1x12 thiele was even harsher. Either you don't check how your cabinets sound directly in front of the speaker or you run your presence fairly low.

Actually I do check how my cabinets sound directly in front of the speaker & they mic up incredibly well in a live mix. I keep the presence & deep at noon. However, I don't play with tons of gain like a lot of Diezel owners. In fact, the louder I turn up the more I back off the gain. I play mainly country & classic rock and use a Strat & a Custom Les Paul with passive '57 pickups. Best sounding rig I've ever owned!

That makes sense. The same 57s (thanks for the suggestion by the way, excellent pickups) sound harsh for me with mesa cabs (I've had 4x12, 2x12 & 1x12). I run my presence 2-3:00 & mids cranked 3 & more most of the time. I don't use too much gain either.

i have a 4x12 cab with evm 12s speakers it sounded pretty bad with my herbert so i tried a eq in the loop and wow it sounded great i dont think the herbert is voiced for ev speakers although the eq is a 10 band and six are flat two mids are cut and 2 highs slightly boosted with everything on channel 3 at 11 or 12 oclock and it sounds awsome go figure
