i always thought a tube pre/ delay in the first stage, feeding a fully mix/width controllable analog modulation section, into a second tube delay output stage, would be great.

the first timeline was close but didn't allow you to adjust the modulation on the multi head delay preset well.
the grit/ filter/ smear controls were weird, but the input could handle most any level well.

the replex was more toneful and felt more musically connected to the input to me, but even though the vintage control was cool, it wasn't perfect. and both were big pedals.

i love the wow/ flutter on the el cap and the skreddy, but the feel isn't perfect.
the feel on my space echo was perfect as was the natural wow and decay, but tape is delicate.

ruh roh!

tony fixed my space echo...maybe he's better with those! :D

Pat, this is where ive been getting my echoplex cartridges from. they last long and have an interesting design that works! orbit is cool. the replex is great for infront of clean amps, mostly clean for me. i still have it for a back up next to my two Ep's.

You need to buy some tape and wind your own tapes. ;) I scored some 1990's Ampex tape (10,000 feet) for like $60 and rewind the used cartridges. Takes less than 10 minutes. I think it costs me a few dollars to rewind each cartridge. I am lucky though since I have 7 extra cartridges, so I rewind them all at the same time.
