I have a 1994 PRS CE 22 with stock trem. Problem is the holes in the sustain block are drilled so deep, the string stem travels too far up over the saddle so that the stem of the string is on the saddle. The stem doesn't bend so I have to force it to bend and crack the string wrap. This causes bteakage and intonation issues.

PRS says to just order one of their newer trem bridges, sure...for $320!!!

Any other bridges I could try?

Check out eBay for the trems or the trem blocks. You can find them for much cheaper through dealers than through PRS directly. Or get on the customer service line with PRS and see if they can help you out. They're a stand-up company.

Thanks bro!!!! I was thinking maybe I can just replace the sustain block.
Actually tonight the intonation seems fine and the strings don't break, I just get worried they could. So I have had this guitar for ten years and never remember this issue. Maybe this is my first time with Ernie Balls on this guitar and the stems are too long. Might have to try D'Addario or GHS again. Maybe their stems are shorter.

Did you speak with PTC or PRS Customer Service? I would try and contact the PTC department and see what they say - they might be able to do this repair for you without replacing the whole bridge. Who knows, it's worth a shot - they are AMAZING.

Thanks guys, I talked to some friendsa and the guys at the PRS forum, apparently this is a known issue with EB strings and PRS trems.

He said the following strings work on PRS trems: D'Addario, Dunlop and GHS.

So, since we tune to Eb (half step down) and for some songs drop to drop C#, I wish I could find strings optimized for half step down. :(

I am looking at Dunlop Strings
Also D'Addario heavy set 11-56 (for D tuning) (heavy core)
Or...GHS Low Tune strings - 11-53 heavy core.

Again we tune half step down and play 90s hard rock, rock and grunge in this cover band.

I might start a new thread.

THANKS!

I use standard D'Addario 10-46 strings on both of my CE's, and have never had any issues doing drop tunings, even down to drop C.

$.02

I am thinking Dunlop to test out because a buddy said they are amazing.

Also thinking GHS Low Tune!!!
GHS Low Tune Boomers Guitar Strings Gauge: .011 .015 .019 .033 .043 .053

Or D'Addario 11-56 although the 14 and 19 could be hell for bends. The 32-44-56 will be great for lack of buzzing when I gig and play aggressively.

D'Addario says...
Hybrid gauges optimized for "D" tuning, one whole step down
Round wound with nickelplated steel for distinctive bright tone
Environmentally friendly, corrosion resistant packaging for strings that are always fresh
Made in the U.S.A. for the highest quality and performance
String Gauges: Plain Steel .011, .014, .019, Nickel Wound .032, .044, .056

Maybe I should go custom gauges and order single strings but it is more expensive. I used to do that.
My dream set would be 10-13-17-30-42-54. That would give me the most comfort in bending while get rid of buzzing with a half step down on the wound strings. Plus, the 54 will handle drop C# well.

10-46 are like rubber bands buzzing away in Eb, especially down to C#. Yikes.

I had this problem before.....the plain strings are fine. It is the wound strings. I find heavier is way better!!!!
