Weight and dimensions?

I've been trying to navigate the USPS website...some reference 79", some 108" girth+length, not easy to find.

Is this it:

236.21 Rectangular Parcels
Minimum length and width: 5-1/2 inches x 3-1/2 inches.
Maximum length: 42 inches.
Maximum length and girth combined: 79 inches.

or is it covered by this:

236.23 Exceptional Size Limits
b. Maximum length: 60 inches
Maximum length and girth combined: 108 inches.
Germany

It's a guitar in hsc so the physical weight will be under..just a safe box.

Anyone worry about the insurance limit...seems to be $500?

Cheers,

Steve

Steve,

I sent a guitar to England once USPS because it was cheaper than FedEx by far.

Took over 3 weeks for it to get there. Tracking didn't work. Thought it was lost. USPS was about useless, and had all sorts of grief from the buyer - where's my package, threats to reverse their paypal, etc. I wouldn't recommend sending anything USPS to anyone. Even their domestic service is the suck - sure it usually gets there, but have an issue and just try to find it in the system.

I'd strongly consider taking it on the chin and shipping FedEx, personally.

I'm not paying, so FedEx could be an option....never had an issue with USPS at all to UK personally (family live there, have sent plenty of stuff)...but I've heard enough stories from people who have....hmmm

Oh and UPS/FedEx have infinitely better tracking, it's true. USPS is improving though:

Speaking of shipping, your module should be there any day now. :) Did you get the notification from FedEx? If not, let me know and I'll forward it.

If they are paying and it fits the size limits, just be sure they are aware of the potential tracking issues with USPS... and especially if the insurance is limited to $500. That scares me right there!

I would just call your local post office and ask them. I'm pretty sure it's 108 inches for most countries, but I've never shipped to Germany before.

I've shipped at least 30-40 guitars overseas with USPS and never had any issues.

And if you use the EMS service it's awesome, what UPS and FedEx wishes they were. I don't think it's the USPS, but that's who you visit to purchase the service. Fast service, full tracking, etc.
