A local guy is selling one of these for $275 on craigslist. How are these guitars? Good deal? Tell me about the guitar.

I have one that i bought new. They sold for around $650 or so. I tried to sell mine and my buddy who runs a music store said they aren't selling and they didn't hold resale value. I have the neck thru/Floyd rose version with Duncan Blackouts (which is the DS1). It plays really nice. I love the neck but the frets are small. I don't like how the bar screws into the bridge, there's a metal rod that goes thru it for tension. I like the plastic bushings much better.

The one I am looking at is a hardtail with the TOM type bridge. Seems like a steal for $250-275. Not sure about it. The other guitars I am looking at are about $500 more expensive and it seems like this might be a great option.

I have two friends here that play in a tech metal band and they both use them. One has a Floyd and the other a Tom/stop piece. I've only played the tom one a couple times but thought it was rad. Lespaul shape but not heavy, and a fairly slim charnel profile neck. Classic looking but metal playing. I would get it.

I was a dealer for these when they first came out in about 2010. I told the Charvel rep when I first saw them that the 2005 Schecter/LTD catalog called and they wanted their guitars back. Talk about missing the mark by years.

And calling the series Desolation was a very apt name because that described what they did to my wallet after purchasing them for sale in the store here. I knew they were going to bomb, but I doubted myself and didn't want to miss the boat if they started selling well. I should have trusted my gut.

They weren't horrible guitars but who was looking for Chinese made Charvels that were copies of what Schecter and LTD had already been doing for years? Not enough people to keep the series going.

This I can see forsure but I tried the guitar out and it played NICE, I really liked it. I sure wouldn't go out and drop what they were originally asking for it but for a haggled $225 I will take it. Gonna pick it up on payday and then drop some new pickups in it. I have an SD custom 5 and a Dimarzio PAF pro in white sitting here so I'll drop em in and see what's what.

What Charvel really needs to do is to is reboot the surfcaster. That guitar was sexy as fuck but I never got to own one.
