I am thinking about trying an Elmwood and see a used 3100 out there as well as new Modenas. I'm not in gigging mode curently and am looking for a good master volume. I'ld like dynamics of an Ecstasy with the attitude of a Engl670se.
Any input would be appreciated.

Best master volume is going to be the modenas. However the 3100 isnt bad on its own. I spoke with elmwood yesterday at namm, peter said they were going to do 8 more 3100's as a limited release. I hope it goes well, and we are going to end up doing them for 5k a pop delivered. They take 8 weeks for delivery. I personally dig the modenas for myself. I got a cool pic for everyone tho! Joshy, how's NAMM?

Roodboy: I had a Modena M90, and I wish I still had it.
It does a Mean Hot Rodded Marshall, real nasty Bite with plenty of growl.
It gets real thick with the Fat knob on the back, perfect for Metal.
It does searing lead tones with a nice voice to it.
Fantastic amp, I'd like to pick up another Modena soon.
Highly recommended if you like Hot Marshall Tones and then some.

man it is FUN! Anyways you need a wizard now! hahah We got them and they are gonna be a huge amp for me i think! Great stuff!

Nice score Josh! Always wanted to get a Wizard Metal. I might be calling you this year.....

I had an M90 and traded it to JMTmusictechnology ( I think that's his name....been awhile) on this board. Before I let her go I played it against a 3100. The M90 is definitely tigher compressed gain for metal compared to the 3100, which has a more open gain and a nice marshally crunch channel. Much more for hard rock. The cleans were also more sparkly, jangly on the 3100. Overall I liked the 3100 more. If I could have the 3100 tones and add the M90 high gain channel to it, it would be one of my favorite amps ever.

Definitely want to play the M60. I think that would be more my bag than the M90. Just not a big KT88 fan for cleans and mid gain tones.

Thanks for the replies.
As far as compression, I found the Herbert channel 3 too compressed. Any comparison as far as 3100 and m90 lead channels to Herbert or 101b red?
