I jumped on the "going direct" bandwagon a few years ago, and have mostly been using Tech21 products. They work pretty well, but I'm starting to want something better. Price isn't too much of an issue, but ease-of-use is huge for me. I've tried the Helix (it sounded OK) but ended up sending it back just because it seemed too complicated to adjust things on the fly in a live setting. Others I have talked to disagree with me, so maybe that will tell you how easy I need it to be.
I'm just now hearing about the Headrush. Its a little cheaper than a Helix, but from the videos I've seen it looks a lot more intuitive and easier to adjust things quickly between songs if needed. The only thing holding me back is, a while back I recorded at a friend's studio through an Eleven Rack, and I was not impressed at all. Having said that, I think we were just using the factory presets. I do understand that most of these kinda things take some tweaking to make sound good. Most of the youtube videos I have come across sound very good.
So who is using one live? Thoughts?
