I have a danelectro fish and chips eq now which I like. I am using it for tone shaping on some songs in the loop of my Marshall 2553. I also use it as a solo boost, which means that I have to lean down and change the level slider alot.

So I am debating just getting another fish and chips EQ or getting a BYOC EQ....

I'm in the exact same boat as you. That said, I can guarantee the BYOC stuff is some of the best on the market, along with just about the only TB'ed EQ out there. However, you can probably find a used MXR 10-band cheaper.

I'll agree to that.
I'm on my 3rd BYOC build in less than 2 weeks!
Addictive as hell and they sound great.

The only thing I don't like about the MXR 10 band is the 18V power supply requirement. All my other effects are 9V. I think the MXR does come with a power supply though.

I may just pony up the money and get the BYOC 10 band. I like the BYOC tribooster I built as a clean boost anyway...

bump, still looking for someone who has used the BYOC 10band EQ

I started this other thread and the lack of detents steered me away from the byoc eq for now. So I have another fish and chips eq coming.

Not sure if I should have the tone shaping eq first or 2nd or what shape the boosting EQ will be. My tone shapping EQ I have in a V, which works great to get some heavier tones from my marshall 2553, which has plenty of mids....

For those who use an EQ as a boost, how do you set the eq? As a frown, W, slight V, etc?

From all I've heard, the BYOC EQ is great. The only complaint I've heard was that the sliders don't have indentions, so trying to set it flat could be a problem.

Sometimes a picture is worth 1000 words. This would be one of those times.

I set it close to that and it worked great. I used the 1st eq for tone shapping in a V. The second one was for a solo boost. It was nice not to have to bend over and move the slider all the time on the one EQ. The footswitches on the 2 fish and chips EQ sure feel different, I wonder if they changed them over the years....
