Was watching some yngwie clips on youtube and started thinking how i never really hear much about his little sig overdrive. Anyone ever use it or try it out.
It's pretty good if you get it modded to "741MOJO" specs by AnalogMan. Without the mod, it's not the same as the vintage DOD that Yngwie used for his signature sound.
I have the Reissue Yellow OD250 modded to "741MOJO" specs and it's pretty good at slamming a clean amp.
It is bright and a bit noisy, if you have a strat with hs3s and a 1987 that you can crank it will come pretty close to the yngwie tone. You would probably want to use a noise gate unless you like to hear a gigantic wall of hiss and noise between notes. They are worth it for the discounted price they come up for like 30 bucks or whatever but I wouldn't pay much more than that for one.

Yes we have tried it.. Mine has Analogman's 741 Mojo Mod and Outlier's Grey Spec 250 component upgrades, it is the best.

It's not like an original grey DOD 250 ( which IMO, is the greatest American Overdrive made), but you can get the yngwie tones with it with the right amp and pickups as Stat + Marshall mentioned. I lean towards the original one because its fatter and the new one is a bit brighter...which i think Yngwie actually had DOD do the brighter version because the bottom end on the originals can get boomy and mushy, but not as bad as the yellow ones. But who knows, last time i saw Yngwie's rig was during the G3 shows and interestingly enough, Joe Satriani was using the new DOD on his pedal board and Yngwie was using his old one!
Noise gate for sure for high gain settings, or else your amp with sound like a Pacific Ocean Storm.
