Anyone try an EP Boost?

I've been looking into this on account of both price point and size.

The thing is so small, yet it sounds (haven't tried it yet) like it packs quite a punch. Looking to use this with a modded Marshall and some clean, fender-like amps when I get the chance.

Anything else around this price point that compares?

Thanks!

On the Marshall it'll help push the front end. They sound pretty decent but I noticed they add a little thickness to the tone which you might like. :dunno: On the Fender it'll add volume.

I like it and then I don't. For total transparency, I was thinking about a Koko Boost but for right now the EP is the ticket.

You ever try the EP with one of your Friedman modded amps? That's what I'll be using mine with.

Love it! It works better with some amps than others. With my Recto, it's pure heaven. Also sounds good with my 101b, SLO, and old Marshalls. . .just not quite as good compared to the Recto.

it gives you 'more.' You're not going to notice any gain, or overdrive -- it's just a great boost to fatten things up.

Yep, works just like I described. The Koko is way better IMO but you pay the price.

I've heard the Koko Boost and a Friedman BE is a match made in heaven.

I'd be happy with both; thanks for the input!

There are quite a few OD/boost pedals that sound good with the Friedman's. They're not as picky as some amps are. It's all what flavor you're after.

Good call. On a different note, I wish I still had my Tube Driver (3 knobs) to try out with my amp. I bet that would've rocked.

Shit, that would've solved all my problems if I had only kept it

Koko works as a clean boost in my loop only (modded marshall)... except for the clean channel. It just drove the pre harder on the gain channel when it was out front.

I use the EP booster as a solo boost and I love it. I use it with the vintage setting and it fattens my tone and boosts for a lead.

For EP tones I like the Clinch better - it doesn't have a "fake" sound like I thought the Xotic had. My fav boost is the Himmelstrutz U/O.

Ditto. I took the Clinch to a store to A/B with the EP Booster and was surprised how much the Xotic colored the tone.
As a clean boost with a mid-range lift, the Clinch EP-Pre is transparent and addictive. The Koko, which I also have, does a fine job with the mids, and can add a lot of hair if thats what you are after. I use it for an OTT sound when I want to get heavy.
King of the pile for me is the Clinch EP+ as it does what the EP-Pre does, and then gives you more.
Great as an 'always on', or for leads with a higher setting. I have a pair on the board to do both.
Clinch's approach is pure, their service is awesome, which is all a bonus as the pedals are perfect.

Thanks for another avenue to explore. I'm gonna watch Pete's demo of it now as a point of reference.

I guess what I'm looking for is an always on type of thing. I'm going to use it with my Friedman KS mod mostly and really only need it to 'clean up' lead lines.

OTT is nice as well.

I have both the Koko and the EP on my board. The EP add some low end and thickens the highs. It is not muddy at all.

The Koko clean side is just that, Clean... It makes your tone bigger. The mid boost side adds mids according to the switch and doesn't cut highs or lows. Great for solo boost to cut through...

I used an EP in the loop of all my amps, including BE, KS, Atomica etc.... Left on 100% of the time with the knob all the way off. I loved it. The best way I can describe what it did, to my ear, was that it made my 10's sound like 11's or 12's on my guitars. Now that I have sold all of those amps since getting the Axe 2, I keep the EP on all of the time in front of my Princeton.

Just what I was looking for.

I've got 2 EP boosters on my full board, one in the loop and one up front.
Depending on how you use the internal dip switches you can tailor it to what you need.
Up front I use it @ 18v to add the warmth and glistening of the echo plex with added headroom and in the loop,9v, I boost the low end and fatten up my hard rhythm tone in the studio.

There's good YouTube vids out there!

Cheers

+1. I have tried 3 xotic pedals and I find they all add that xotic signature sound to everything.. i describe it also as fake or synthetic. Bugged the $hit out of me.
