I'm growing tired of the JB in the bridge of my LP. At times it seems to be too compressed and a bit muddy on the lows.

I'm thinking of going towards something with less output and more clarity. I already have plenty gain from my amps.

I specifically want to know about the 59'. I've already taken the boutique route on many occasions (WCR, MCP, BKP) and I've yet to discover anything that totally "WOWED" me. Duncan and Dimarzio are fine with me.

i have 59s in the neck and bridge of an LP
owned hte JB in other guitars and also the Custom,Custom Custom, Custom 5 and dimarzions like Paf Pro/Tone zone

i like the 59 (more so for hte neck position) but my fav pickup for a mahogany guitar is the Custom5.
ill be recording some clips hopefully tonight of the 59 bridge/neck for a zvex distortron demo. so ill send you the link if its of any help.

I tried a '59 in the bridge position of a superstrat. It was pretty mid heavy. Sounded good, but I ended up with an Air Norton instead. The '59 would probably sound good in a more substantial guitar like an LP though.

Thanks ! I've used the Custom 5 and I wasn't too impressed. It was pretty scooped out in the mids and the lows were overbearing. I'm hoping the 59' will have a bit more mid emphasis than the Custom 5..........i've read this to be the case depite their identical EQ curves on the Duncan website.

I forgot, I actually still have the '59 sitting in a parts drawer somewhere. Pm me if you're interested. I'll make you a killer deal on it. :D

Thanks for the offer, but I have one enroute already. I took advantage of Duncan's return policy on a Custom Custom that didn't work out in another guitar.

I've got a 59/custom custom hybrid in my superstrat and I love it. It nails the hot PAF tone IMO. I've been through a bunch of boutique pups as well and this sounds better than 99% of them.

59 will work for rock and anything up to rock, but imho, a custom would be better suited (in a Les Paul) for a little bit more punch and output.

let us know how it works out.

That is a killer pickup, I've made a few of them and they are really nice. You using the a2 or a5 magnet in yours? I'm really liking one of mine with the a2 magnet at the moment.

The Pearly Gates is another great option for "hot vintage" type of tone. Very similar to the '59 with a wee bit more aggression (its not a high output pickup) and a tighter bottom end. I used one for years in my LPC with great results.

I use 59 in the bridge
w/ plexi (mojave peacemaker)
sounds very organic

used to use the JB, but with an organic tone, the JB sounds way too gainy and compressed for me

I liked the JB with high gain amps

The Lynch Screamin Demon is perfect for "less output, more clarity". That's exactly what it was designed to do.
I picked one up when I was a young metalhead thinking that it would rip with a name like screamin demon, and I was extremely disappointed to say the least.   He really should've chosen a more fitting name! Cool pup though.

I am about to drop one in one of my axes myself. I've had a Screamin Demon laying around for a while that I've had in a few different guitars. I've liked it a lot. I'm in the hunt for a 59 in the neck. I think a 59 in the neck and a Demon in the bridge should do me well. I'll offer more input once I do it.

Nice. Yeah the Demon is a cool and often overlooked pup, because I think most people don't understand what it is supposed to do. If it had a little more output and more of a fluid feel, I would still own one. I liked the clarity and the sweetness it brought to my setup, but I felt like I was fighting it to get what I wanted out of my guitar.

The 59 is great in the neck position! One of my favorite neck pups, and much better sounding than the Jazz Neck IMO.

I used to use a '59 in the bridge of a superstrat and was able to get some very good rock to heavy rock tones out of it.

Best pickups I ever had in an LP were the Duncan Antiquities...

Steve

I had dual 59s in a Hamer studio. The neck was perfect, the bridge a little bright and more jangly than I really wanted, but good tones for classic rock.

Ran one in the bridge a long time ago, I liked it. I remember some comments of older, seasoned musicians- to the effect of " Man, that Les Paul really sounds like a Les Paul!". I eventually swapped out, just for a change.
