Anyone use/tried a Tubescreamer in a high gain amps fx loop?

so ...a friend of mine wants me to build him a tubescreamer pedal. to replace his boss EQ pedal, which he uses in his Peavey JSX's fx loop as a solo boost (eq set for a volume + mid boost)

ive never used or tried a TS pedal in an fx loop, but "theoratically"...it should work if the gain isnt set too high right? (i can build them with less gain at min. gain settings and more or less mid hump) and used purely as a lead/solo boost (adding volume and saturation) as his JXS has a footswitchable fx loop.

ive suggested a clean fet style boost instead...but he wants to try a TS in the loop. i hate guitarists sometimes.

the only amp with an fx loop i have, isnt suited to instrument level signal...so i can'tt test this out for myself at this stage.

anyone care to try it out and confirm that it sounds like ass?

I tried it for the same thing and it sounded like there was a blanket over my tone when I kicked it on.

I really liked an RC Booster in the loop of my XTC. Made the amp sound more like it was cranked all the way up. But the RC is low on the overdrive side.

try it and see what you think but I have one on my pedal board for boosting clean channel and I have tried it in front of the gain channel on my Splawn QR and it sounds very solid state/metal sounding if that makes sense. My guess is it won't sound very good.

Gain pedals used sparingly to boost amps =

Using said pedals in an effects loop =

In my experience, it sounds like crap.....in my experience.

I use a BYOC 250+ clone (mixed and matched parts from the Distortion+ version though, so not exact...) at the end of my chain in the loop for a slight volume and gain boost. I think it sounds good and doesnt add extra noise to the signal. I leave the gain knob barely cracked and the volume to taste (3:00 or so). YMMV
