Probably like most everyone else I've used Jazz III's since the early 90's. Along the way I've tried plenty of other heavy or stiff picks like the Cool picks, the Ultex picks, or various other's as long as they were heavy.

Lately I've been reaching for these Dava picks which are pretty different. I think they're called Dava Control. They feel like a medium picks the near the tip it's stiff. Dava says they don't make picks by the gauge and they have their design but they feel like mediums to me.

Didn't Paul Gilbert switch to mediums? Anyway, I feel for certain things it actually helps me, for other I'm still working on it. But switching picks for me is like changing my socks.

I have used Tortex Sharp .88 for 10 years and just recently switched to Jazz III XL's. :D

I have been wanting to try Dava picks now that you mention it.

been using cool heavy's for a few years, recently switched back to Fender heavy's, they super ugly multicolored ones. Seem to get much better snap on certain things. So now I keep both with me at all times. Just what I need, no wait I gotta find this pick to play this song...

I am using Dunlop tortex .73's for my Les Paul and .88's for my other guitars. I was a long time Fender medium and heavy pick user before. I think of being more heavy than a medium Fender. I tried the JazzIII XL's and they were too small and stiff for my liking.

I used fender mediums for years. Then it seemed they started wearing out super fast and would catch on my strings. I switched to tortex. At least when they wear they dont get sticky. I think pg uses .60 mm. That's more flex than a fender me.

I use the purple Tortex(1.14). I hate pick flex. The stiffer the better. I use the mediums once in a while just because they are popular and I somehow end up with a ton of them.(They all seem to say Guitar Center on them)

I have a few of the Dava picks. One has a stainless steel tip on it and I love that pick. Great attack on it, plus the grip on it is killer. I like to use the Fender mediums once in a while just to change things up. I went off the deep end a few months back and bought one of those Red Bear picks..kinda like a fake tourtise shell deal....anyhow....took them about 8 weeks to make the pick and get it to me...I used it for about 2 weeks and lost it. It was nice....but not $28.00 nice.

I used to play with .88 tortex's (green). I jumped to the 1.0 (blue) and 1.14 (purple) tortex's a long time ago though. Im sure if I had to play with the greens again I could, but I know I never could with any smaller than that when I tried. The picks bent too much.

I play with .70 when I play pop/blues which is 85% of the time. but when I play hard rock I got to heavy

Dunlop nylon 88's since 1982?! Dunlop where's my endorsement yo!! Haha...
I know, too flexy, but I grip em into stiffness during play, which I like. Depending on the grip, theres a lotta play in feel.
and very hard to wear out, no snags. I hate picks that groove.... can't stand celluloid picks...

Fender must have changed their material cause I had the same problem. The newer ones in the last 5 years or so wore out really fast.

I actually consider the .88 Green Tortex pretty thick and stiff. I do have a pack of the blue 1.0, but rarely use those. I like my pick to have a little give, just not too much, hence the yellow and green tortex ones being my favorite. :D

I used Dunlop Ultex 1.14s I wish they made a thicker gauge like 1.40 in a standard tip. I don't like sharp tip. I did a custom order of Clayton's version Ultex (ultem). out of 144 picks 103 were banana shaped. That is the last time I use Clayton.

I could not see myself playing thin medium picks. I don't like the feel of a pick flexing at all.

Mediums, Danny?? Nah... maybe for percussive rhythm stuf on acoustic, but generally if its anything larger/thinner than the Cool heavy I feel like I'm picking with a fkn baseball card.... fffppt, fffppt...
You watch, I'll bet you'll screw with em for a while and then go back to a jazz 3 or something and feel much better about it...
You ever try the Jazz 3 XL's? I used them for a while b4 I found the cool picks, theyre a shade larger than a cool, but a little more forgiving than the tiny jazz'rs... I think I remember offering a cool pick to Guthrie at NAMM a few years back an thats what he was using, at the time. Thats a ringing endorsement right there... :)

I use the yellow Tortex's, 73's I think? I don't know how anyone uses super thick picks and is still able to hit chords without having the pick fly out of your hand!? Unless you play with the very tippy end of the pick?

One pick slide and a standard Fender medium (or crappy pink GC pick) is groved and useless.

Started with Tortex Green .88. Now am exclusively .73 Orange.

However waiting on a set of new free picks. Like to try different things but .73 in very nice

Seriously!? I tought everyone where using jazz III's (anyway for lead/shred and metal in general)

Always been using the jazz III. Tried the dava recently(grip tip) with the ruber grip and red tip, i liked the grip a lot, but the tip wear fast and quickly get too round for my taste, and its slightly flexier than the jazz so went back to jazz. Havent tried the dava jazz.

I used Fender mediums forever. Got sick of how fast they wear out so I bought two packs of the Dunlop multi sampler. One was thin/medium and the other medium/heavy. Contained every type of pick Dunlop makes.

I started using the Ultex Sharp .90. Lovem!!! and they last forever!!!
