…as I type this on my iPad ?‍♂️

Bought a new iPad for my Wife and returned her mint condition but aged iPad Pro for a small credit (in it’s 3rd party case). They emailed to say they weren't giving any credit due to damage and if no action taken would return it. So a little bemused we do nothing thinking we’ll find someone to give it to or something and it comes back..…..No case. And fairly damaged. Two cracks on the lower border. Serious pitting on the back and a 1”x 2” residue patch from some kind of adhesive. What the literal fuck! At first I thought they had looked at and returned the wrong iPad but I researched the serial number and it was the same one. So they or the shipper damaged it somehow but they definitely took the case. I know nothing will come of it from them but I see a transition back to Android and PC in my near future.

That sucks, and without pre-shipping photos you’ve got no chance in hell of any restitution. Who would think to do that anyway.

Unless you dropped the unit off in-person isn't it possible that this was the state in which Apple received it in the first place?

If that's the case, that'd explain it.

It's a 3-trillion $ company and it has no interest in damaging an iPad in order to maximise its profit via the exchange.

How does adhesive residue as if a sticker or label was on the back happen from shipping damage. How does a case disappear from shipping damage?

UPS and FedEx are Billion dollar companies that have no interest in carelessly damaging or losing our shipments as well…….but

I said, "... in order to maximise its profit via the exchange."

My point was obvious I think. My money's on UPS, FedEx or whomever.

Oops, I see you posted twice.

We don't know the story of the residue.

The case might've been in good order, thereby qualifying for resale and retention.

Hey, you "asked" so like you I'm just trying to make sense of it brother.

The case was our property. If they’re returning the iPad, they don’t get to keep the case. It was only to be recycled if they also took in the unit. If we get the unit back, we need that case.…..…..since when did you start moonlighting as an Apple rep anyway?

That wasn't necessary brother. I explained myself anyway:
"Hey, you "asked" so like you I'm just trying to make sense of it brother."

That sucks about the case; sorry to hear that. I'm sure that if you let them know they'd make reparations.

I've been following the company since around 1982 and I genuinely believe that it's always prided itself on its customer service, so given this POV, surely you understand that I'd naturally have a more-positive attitude to the situation and its ability to be resolved than you appear to right now?

I know it sucks. This sort of thing never feels good, but... Apple knows this. Any employee who doesn't look after you well risks his or her job.
