Hi

First post here ;-)
I did a demo for the Aracom PRX 150 in my studio. Its an amazing attenuator, and since it doesn't color the sound of the amp a lot the video is rather boring. I used a '71 Marshall JMP SuperBass (stock) and my trusty Suhr Classic T, high quality mics, mic pres and A/D convertion. Details in the vid.
I used reamping so there's no difference in playing. Everytime the same bit of music.

With maximum attenuation the soundlevel is absolutely bedroom level! Over 30db of reduction and the amp stills sounds the way it should....quite impressing!

I matched the levels of the attenuated sounds with the un-attenuated sounds so that you can only hear the difference in sound but not in volume. To me there is something happening, but i'd like to read what you guys think/hear.

Already posted on other forums before but i decided to put it up here as well since the unit is that good to me.

Here's the link:

Cheers

Welcome to rigtalk

It does sound impressive, I do hear some differences as it gets more and more attenuated, however for 30db of attenuation at the max setting it sounds much better than I would have expected.

Is it possible to run the signal through a frequency analyzer?

Thx, glad you like it!
Would be interesting to know what you hear and find out if its the same as i hear.....
Max attenuation is quite impressive, isn't it?

Could run it through the analyzer when im back in the studio

Max Attenuation was beyond impressive. I was really trying to pick out certain parts that sounded different compared to no attenuation but nothing major at all, atleast to my ears.

Sounds good, I did notice some differences in the settings, I am still very impressed with the Aracom DAG. Do you notice any difference in the feel as your turn up the attenuation?

The Aracom DAG is currently off my list, just due to the price. Right now the Alex Attenuator and Rivera Rockcrusher are running neck and neck. It will be a good while before I have the coin for either though.

My friend has one of these. We've used with many different amps and it sounds very transparent.

@blackba i dont think that feels changes with the attenuator, stays pretty much the same and is very musical. Once compared it to dr.z airbrake and the aracom feels (and sounds) much better to my ears.

@mrkmas yes its subtle, to me it gets a bit brighter with more attenuation....the highcut feature is very nice to "correct" that.
