I stumbled upon this amp by accident at a local music store. Wasn't planning on buying specifically anything just trying out a new blackstar. However I walked out with it.
My reviews have changed thru time as I try to dig in deeper before writing a review. I've learned after past experiences don't get to excited n blow your load to quick.
Clean channel. It is very warm. Doesn't break up. Reminds me of a fender twin sort of feel. Not twangy or sterile. Very warm very much like tremonti clean tone.
Gain channel. The volume on the channel is the gain. The pots really have a nice sweep to them. The gain has a huge sweep to it. From subtle to extreme brutal. The bass is warm but doesn't mud up. The Mids to me shine. You can sorta scoop the amp but to me it doesn't ever get like a engl or whatnot.
Highs are nice clear not harsh. Rolling the treble back n dumping the Mids get u closer to a scooped metal tone.
The gain here is pretty amazing. It's very clean no fizz. Super tight. The harmonics are easily obtained. No fighting this amp. I know you guys know that feeling. If you have to fight an amp "See Ya" !
Fx loop is great slapped a tc flashback thru it. Excellent. Also ran a zakk wah n a crybaby 95Q in front. Running the archon thru a Diezel 4x12 RL v30xk100. Played with Les Paul,Ibanez iron Label,PRS Cantonese Signature. & Dean Leslie West Signature.
Amp has a depth n pres controls as well as bias points in rear. 2 button footswitch channel/loop. 6L6 tubes. Very simple layout, very simple amp.
Bottom line this amp reminds me of Marshall Mids+ Mesa Darkness & Diezel tightness n punch. Everytime I flip it on it's right there no fkn fiddling with knobs. This is not tweaker heaven. This is a players amp !
