Are EL34 safe in 6L6 ENGL Special Edition E670?

I just acquired a 6L6 version of this amp. It does have a switch for el34, however I read that , supposedly according to ENGL it is not recommended to run el34s for long. Why did they add a switch if its not "safe"? Also, would asking Eurotubes for example, for specific grade of tubes probably make it safer?

I wouldn’t recommend it. There is a rocker switch on the top of the chassis near the power tubes... but iirc there was an issue with the screen resistors and output transformer not holding up with the increased current draw. Going the other way with the EL34 version with 6L6GCs is safe.
 
From what I remember (Ive had more than one SE) but I think I tried this exact thing and yes it blew a screen resistor and took some other components out as well.
