Other than wanting a schecter V, I really have major gas for a Dean Z. i have played the $450 79' series. which was very light, but it felt cheap. I don't care about the pup's they would be changed anyways. and it would get a new nut. Was it just the crappy factory set-up and old dry cheap strings? or are they junk? I could probably trade my shecter bass for it and get it "no cash out of pocket".
Also I see the $650 Z's with the trans black top, and the "black gold" ones. Anyone play these? are they the same 79' with a more expensive top ? or are they actually better quality? There is a razor with a fixed bridge i found (pic below) that is $900....one would assume this should be a smoking axe for $900. I dont find any upper series Z's like that though. short of the USA ones.

I have a v79 reissue that's Korean and it's a great guitar. I'm not entirely sold on the pickups but the finish work is excellent, the guitar plays and hangs well, really a great guitar.

so for $450 , the 79' isnt a bad guitar if it were set up and re-pup'd?
