I hate what this holiday turned into.
Bunch of drunks lightning off fireworks.
Then leaving the debris for all the neighbors to clean up.
I can bet a good majority don't know the 4th was not the end of the war. Nor the beginning.
It was already raging on over a year by then.
Most of the delegates didn't sign the declaration until late August.
2 were signed by proxy as they were unable to make it to Philly.
Families split in half each taking the other side.
The 20,000 that suffered in died in prison ships in a Brooklyn harbor.
Many of their remains entombed
at Ft. Greene park memorial
Also took another 2 yrs after Yorktown to put an end to it.

Another tidbit. We didn't kick anyones ass. Was a war of attrition. King George couldn't afford to fight it any longer.

He was already half bankrupted from the French and Indian war 20 yrs earlier.
