Arrived: JHS Bonsai (screamer)... who has one or tried it?

Missed my od808, started looking around. This has all the great screamers in one box.
Really excited to try them all back to back, the keely mod and JHS stronghold sound badass also.
Real Handwired circuitry.
Made in USA.
I had some amazon gift cards and another visa gift card, so hoping it’s a cheap thrill. Haha

Have not tried it but has been on my radar. Been keeping an eye out for a used one at a decent price but have not seen anything yet. Interested in hearing your thoughts.
 
I was just coming back around and checking this one out too.. it is a tad expensive but to be honest, i can probably flip my TS-808 for a 100$ on the used market locally and then sell my OD-1 clone for 75$ and then I am more than halfway there and still have 7 other screamer options I can play with. Pete Thorn's demo was cool.. i really liked that Polish or Czech OD-1 version and the JHS version pushing a dirty MArshall. Juicy! So i don't think it is too steep given that you can replicate 9 diff circuits even though they are all variations.Might still pull the trigger.....
 
Been wanting to check this one out for a good while. Looking forward to your opinion on it.

I loved my Maxon od808, with my Dual Rec.
The savage drive sounds great for certain metal tones with it, but I want that thick KSE tone.
I know this boost has the same circuit as the od808 in one of the settings, I think they said it’s the ts10.
But for the price: I get my od808 (but American made), plus all the cool newer mods (versions) which offer lots of cool features. More bass, smoother mids, different responses.
I’m trying to keep my boosts to a few pedals, at least this one gets a ton of options. (true replications also, not modeling).

Got the pedal yesterday (so it came 1 day shipping) from amazon. Score!

So I got it on the board, and only went through it with my 2017 Dual Rec.
First impression is: this pedal rocks.
Exactly what I was looking for, for my recto. I love the different modes this pedal offers.
I’m really digging a few of them. They all sound great and useable though.
So far I’m loving the keeley mod, and the JHS stronghold a lot. The ts9 and 808 are just like I remember.
The keeley mod gives some nice smoothness to the aggressive dual rec mids. The stronghold mod is clearer and has better thump than the older screamers. They just flat out slay.
It’s cool to compare them back to back and not have to buy them all individually.
Gives me a good perspective of what’s going on tonally.
I’ll try it with my other amps in due time.
It’s a great compliment, and completely different, than my savage drive.
Which the savage has zero clipping. It’s a super clean boost and adds nice attack, the way I have it set.
It has its place with other amps also.
This is a keeper for me. Like a Swiss Army knife of green screamers :rock: .
Gonna check out some more jhs stuff for sure.
 
And of course as soon as you posted that you had this incoming, someone posted one for sale in the classifieds. Really need to move a pedal or two before I pull the trigger!
 
That's cool that many of the modes sound good! The TS9DX I have sounds like shit on any mode except ts9 IMO.
 
I have the Bonsai and it’s set to Keeley mode right now. My favourite settings are Keeley or JHS. It’s a cracking pedal!
