nothing new to many of you, but i checked out:

genz-benz el diablo
marshall jvm
rivera chubster
pv jsx
pv valve king
pv windsor

apparently the guitarist for slipknot sold a bunch of gear to GC, so i played through his genz-benz el diablo (through gflex cabs). I like 80's marshall sounds. This amp was only around $750, seemed to be built very well, but i thought it sounded terrible. Very clanky. A "nu metal" guy might love it. not for me

JVM: finally got to check it out. I i played it at low volumes but could tell it has a lot of firepower. The controls DO seem very shoddy. I'd like to play it at higher volumes and could definitely own the amp.

jsx: dug it a lot

valve king: not worth $500.. shitty tone
windsor: not my thing either

Rivera: not enough gain. maybe i'll dig it when i grow up some.

i'd like to play with the jvm some more and would like to compare it with the jsx at higher volumes.

i'd prob go with the jsx when it's all said and done

What did you like about the JSX in particular?

ease of use.. i plugged in using an explorer, turned a couple of knobs, and had a very powerful, thick sound. minimal tweaking

jsx has more cajones than the JVM....I like the versatility of the JVM and the amount of retardo-gain, but it sounded thin to me. :student:

I had that same experience with the JSX in the store. I was so impressed that it came home with me that day. However, after a couple of weeks I learned that it wasn't for me at all (I even tried 6L6's). Just seemed way too compressed and had a strange honk that wouldn't dial out. I will say that it had the best fluid lead tones I have ever heard though.

Turn the gain and the treble down a little and that fixes right up. ;)
