I am headed to go house shopping in the south west Area of Austin and will be there this summer.
Seems like a cool town, but I know very little

what's the 411? I love original rock/metal so I'll be looking to hook up with some musicians and visit the rock clubs.

A drummer I played with moved and hasnt done enough to talk about 10 years now/ good drummer too. You will play for free if you play at all. Lil fish big pond

well I hope to do something that is good enough to talk about lol
I've been doing original music forever, so no/low pay is kind of the norm unless you can presell tix

Austin has been raided by California.
All the good rock n blues has been replaced with hip hop.
I used to love to go there. After the last time, almost a year now, I don't care to go back.

I live in L.A. and know more than a couple musicians who've moved there to escape L.A.-chaos (& expense!) under the impression that it's a "great music town" without the headaches (& expense!) of here. Not 1 had a good experience or did anything, and most either moved back here or moved back to wherever they came from.

I wanna say when My wife and I visited about 18 months ago that Come and Get It Live was the metal club/concerts. Don't know if there is much more? Austin was cool to visit. We thought about moving there, but went to visit and decided not to...weren't feeling it was for us. But, that doesn't mean it's not right for others.

LIve in Austin. It's just OK in regards to a music scene. Most of the good clubs that had bands are now closed. There are still a couple of good venues, like maybe 3 or 4.

Yeah Austin is the last place I'd want to be musically, to be honest. We are looking to move to TX as well, but mostly for cheap land.

Come and Take it Live and Dirty Dog Bar are pretty cool rock bars.

You and everyone else. It's exploding. Traffic is increasingly horrible. All that is green is being replaced with apartments and condos. My gf and I often talk about moving away because of the changes happening here.

Yeah I don't think we are looking anywhere people really want to live though...

I want acreage. We've seen houses about 2800 sq ft on 5+ acres for around $300K. I want to be away from people at all costs.

Look in Kerrville/Fredericksburg area. Texas hill country. Close enough to drive to Austin/San Antonio, but far enough out to get plenty of land

I was going to suggest San Marcos or New Braunfels based on a recent business visit ( and not local music per se). Close enough but far enough.

Austin shouldn't even be part of Texas. It`s the exact opposite of everything Texas stands for. Go figure anything California will and can fuck up a wet dream.

I hope all these people moving from California, New York and New Jersey realize why those states became what they are, and not do it to Texas, Florida and Arizona.

I visit Austin yearly, it's a lovely place to live and work. It's like if you slammed Hipster LA with Dallas Texas.

Plenty Texas blues places, like Atone's and The Continental Club regularly host Jimmy Ray Vaughn. Also always outdoor shots all over the place at the BBQ pits.

For metal.... yeah you're gonna be traveling to Dallas, San Antonio and Houston alot
