Danhops posted pics here of both of them side by side, cant remember the thread though. Maybe a search under his name and maybe the p[ics are still there.

Hey Chris, I've owned both. The bogner definitely sounds more woody and rich. The avatar is really nice for the dough however.

Chris, I'm in the same boat sorta - I have a bogner Ecstasy and since getting my axe-fx been thinking of getting rid of it. Had a chance to pick up a bogner 4x12 though at a great price, and went for it - even if I get rid of the Ecstasy, bogner cabs still sound awesome.

I'd say if you can swing it, get the bogner 2x12 and then even if you flip the Shiva, you'll have a fantastic cab for whatever amp you own or get next.

And by the way, there's a new Bogner 2x12" cab at Eddies Guitars just down the road, but they don't allow returns at all as far as I know. Too bad their not like GC with a 30 day return policy or whatever. Heck, even a week would be okay.

Could you take your head down there and play through it?

Hey Chris - EightmanVT is going to be selling off all his stuff and I'm 99% sure he has a Bogner os2x12.

Really? Thanks. I'll PM him!
I just emailed him to let him know. I think he's going to be selling 4 or 5 heads and some Bogner Cubes too.

IMO, although they look pretty similar in construction, Bogners sound much much better. At least they do with my amps.

The Bogners sound thicker. Not sure if some batting and a center brace in the Avatar would get close. The Bogners are built better as well. I like em both though.

The Bogner OS 2X12 is the best sounding cab I've ever played. I own 2 Avatar 4X12s and they sound good, especially for the $$, but I prefer the Bogner OS. Granted thats an apple-to-oranges sort of comparison, but the Bogner cab sounds great.

I don't know from experience but Dave(Avatar) told me that his cabs and Bogners' come from the same supplier.

Who was it on here that owned both of these cabs at the same time? How do they compare tonally?

I have this Antone 2x12" cab that sounds great, but I'm gassing hard for a Bogner OS 2x12" for this Shiva head. Real hard...

Chris

Hey you gear gasin' butt nut!

You must be crazy to NOT go for a Bogner 2x12 to compliment the Shiva. Reinhold's German - and just like Shamwow is made in Germany and you know that Germans make everything the best - you got to go with the Boggy...

I concur.

I have one of the Bogner OS 2x12s and love it with every amp I have tried it with. It does have this cool woody tone that I haven't found with any other cab I have owned/played. Mine won't be going anywhere.

It would look killer with the Shiva on top!

I've tried that too. It helps a lot, but doesn't sound nearly as sweet as Bogners.

what does gassing mean? i've seen it in other posts, now i'm really interested what it means.

It means that he needs some more gear out of shear Gear Acquisition Syndrome...

I wish they made it with a black grill cloth. I think I saw one with a black grill in a FS thread somewhere awhile back, shoulda snagged it then

Ok, guys....

I guess I have to be the one who disagrees with others on this one.
I took four V30's (older English made ones) out of a Marshall 4 x12 and put two of 'em in a Bogner OS 2x12 cab and two of 'em in a Mesa Recto 2x12 cab.

I A/B/A/B/A/B/A/B/A/B/A/B/A/B/A/B/A/B 'd those cabs for quite a while one afternoon and I would choose the Mesa cab with a Bogner amplifier.

Reason being that Bogners are not bass strong in any case (they are mid/bass strong) and I found the Mesa Recto brings out a nice bottom end chunk missing in the Bogner cab. The Mesa also sounded "heavier" and a little bit less vintage - just a little...

I would choose the Recto 2x12 over the Bogner 2x12 - just sounds beefier - heavier - better - to my ears Chris. Maybe it's the 14" depth compared to the 12" depth of the Bogner? I dunno...

The Mesa Recto 2X12 wins easily for me. NOT the newer Mesa 2x12 - I mean the older "Mesa Recto 2x12"

Yeah, I wish Avatar made it with a black grill cloth (I'm not sure if you're talking Bogner or Avatar.) I heard the wheat grill on the Avatar cab doesn't match the wheat grill on my Shiva head, would sounds like it would look stupid.

Do what I did Chris.

Different strokes I guess. I don't like the bassiness of recto cabs (big bass just doesn't work in a band mix to my ears) and like the "vintage"-ness (lots of that is just the high-end attenuation from the basketweave, IMO) of Bogner cabs. FWIW I generally find the tones I like best with a band don't sound as good on their own and vice versa.
