I wish they made it with a black grill cloth. I think I saw one with a black grill in a FS thread somewhere awhile back, shoulda snagged it then

Yeah, I wish Avatar made it with a black grill cloth (I'm not sure if you're talking Bogner or Avatar.) I heard the wheat grill on the Avatar cab doesn't match the wheat grill on my Shiva head, would sounds like it would look stupid.
I was actually talking about the Bogner 2x12. I've been so impressed with my Uber cab, I feel like I'm missing the Bogner mojo at home since the Ubercab isn't here :D

I really liked my old Mesa 4x12 slant(traditional?) though too. I makes me want to A/B the Mesa, Bogner and my Orange 2x12. Would be nice to throw a Splawn in there too. Kinda funny, I ignored the Bogner 2x12 sorta because of it not having the 14" depth. I figured that would affect the bass. Since I prefer 4x12's, I like a deep cab at home. Oh, curious about the Port city 2x12's too  Now that its been brought up, I'm curious which I'd like best

Ok, guys....

I guess I have to be the one who disagrees with others on this one.
I took four V30's (older English made ones) out of a Marshall 4 x12 and put two of 'em in a Bogner OS 2x12 cab and two of 'em in a Mesa Recto 2x12 cab.

I A/B/A/B/A/B/A/B/A/B/A/B/A/B/A/B/A/B 'd those cabs for quite a while one afternoon and I would choose the Mesa cab with a Bogner amplifier.

Reason being that Bogners are not bass strong in any case (they are mid/bass strong) and I found the Mesa Recto brings out a nice bottom end chunk missing in the Bogner cab. The Mesa also sounded "heavier" and a little bit less vintage - just a little...

I would choose the Recto 2x12 over the Bogner 2x12 - just sounds beefier - heavier - better - to my ears Chris. Maybe it's the 14" depth compared to the 12" depth of the Bogner? I dunno...

The Mesa Recto 2X12 wins easily for me. NOT the newer Mesa 2x12 - I mean the older "Mesa Recto 2x12"

Wow Keith, that shocks me! You really love the Bogner 4x12" cabs, don't you? There's a thread over on TGP now about the Recto 2x12" cab and everyone/most said it's nice. Who would've thunk? It looks like it sits too low to the ground and stuff.

Also, I didn't realize there's an old and new 2x12". Don't they still make the "recto 2x12 cab?"

Hey Chris,

Here is my input for what its worth. I heard that amp plugged into a bogner 2x12 an avatar 2x12 and both sounded nice, but if you heard them side by side I liked the bogner 2x12 better it was an easy choice. Although here is where I would agree with Keith the cab I used it with and what I liked the best is my old mesa 2x12 that has been beat to hell and sprinkled with pixie dust. I only say the pixie dust part because that cab was a clear winner over the bogner 2x12 cab for me and I liked it even better than the uber cab he had. I don't know that advice means to you but there it is.

I gotta say, that grill cloth is nicer than the Avatar.

Ha ha! I thought about trying to get some of the Bogner wheat cloth and putting it on the Antone. That would probably look cool with the wheat cloth and the way those holes on the front of the Antone cab are cut (where the speakers are.)

It would look cool! Dont forget to match the piping ;)

That would be your cheapest way to go esp. if you already like the tone.

That's the thing. I used to love the tone from this cab, but now that I've heard my buddy Jim try it with several of his amps, I notice that it really puts it's own spin on stuff. I mean, it has a unique midrange voicing that's kinda cool, but kinda not. I could try different speakers too, I guess.

well I don't know if you seen my reply above but I would vote for the mesa 2x12

DOH! Didn't think of that.

Molding things that I like is alot more satisfying and affordable to me than spending $$$ ;)
Now I GAS for the best playing/sounding/looking stuff I can get for the least amount of cash. It's way addictive, especially when you have 3 kids that consume all of your money.

You can see Mesa Rectro 2x12 in my avatar, which I sold right after I bought Bogner & never looked back. I can see how some may prefer the Mesa though. My Bogner OS 2x12 sounded as big as my Mesa rectifier 4x12, which I also sold.

Keith, is this the one?

Look at you throwing a wrench into the plan! lol

I've had a Recto 2x12 for almost 8 years, been a solid workhorse. There is no boominess in the Recto 2x12 cab like an oversized 4x12 or anything like that.

Just a nice solid, beefy but very controlled low end with a hint of modernness to the tone. More low end than a stock 1960A with GT-75's when I compared them years ago.

That was the main cab I used with my Shiva back when I had it and sounded killer with it imo...

You should be good to go with G12T75 if you are planning to have it in a Bogner cabinet. Now if you are getting a Mesa that's a different story.

Holy smokes!
Yep, I believe that's the one, Chris!
I guess it's all subjective-as always!
I really prefer the Bogner 4x12 to anything.... but as far as 2x12's go, I prefer the Mesa Recto by far over other 2x12's.

Get the Recto 2x12 from GC. Try it with the Shiva and the V30s loaded in the Recto. If you don't dig that tone, swap speakers in both cabinets and try the Shiva with each cab loaded with the different speakers. If none of the results float your boat, take the Recto cab back and get the Bogner cab.

See .... the only problem is that I originally tried a 2x12 Bogner (brand new) in the store and the speakers were also obviously brand new which sound terrible...
This is whey I had to bring/borrow that new Bogner 2x12 home with me for a couple days and throw the SAME speakers out of a 4x12 Marshall V30 cab into the Bogner 2x12 and the Mesa Recto.

I know - I know - Everyone loves Bogner cabs- I do too, at least the 4x12 straights, but clearly for me the winner is the Recto 2x12 by a long shot.

Like I say- Love you all, guys, tone is subjective- but I really do believe some of you doubters would drop your jaws if you did a PROPER a/b test like I did with the exact same speakers (age etc) in both cabs...
Oh well... I really don't give a rat's ass who likes what.
This is just my .02 !!

If we all liked the same amps/cabs/speakers, this forum would be very boring!!! lol...
Carry on Friends!! It's all good!

Speaking of speakers, what Celestion has big lows and scooped mids like the G12T75, but with a smoother top end? Anyone know?

That pretty much sounds like the Celestion Classic Lead 80's, but the CL80's seem to have more mids than the G12T75 and a smoother all around.

You might try mixing speakers with your G12H30's, a greenback and G12H30 would be a cool combo.

Are the G12H30's in your cab 8ohm or 16ohm?

Just get the Bogner, you know you won't be satisfied until you do.

I still have the one I bought when I picked up my Shiva in '04. Glad to see you're diggin the Shiva, it was probably the best amp I've ever had and I've had some good ones. Duolos has mine now, but seeing your clips made me consider picking another one up........

I have a V30 and CL80 in my bogner OS2x12 and that's been a great combination for every amp I've run through it (Shiva, Soldano Avenger, Bassman, 2 different DSLs).

Hey Brian, thanks for the info. The speakers in my 2x12" cab are 8ohms each for a total 16ohm load. I got the 2x12" at 16ohms with the idea of running it alongside a 4x12" at 16ohms, but I never do that.

Mesa 2x12 is a great cabinet. I had had it for more than long enough & side by side ABed, BBed, CCed and wanted to justify keeping the rectifier 2x12 for some time. These are 2 very different sounding cabinets & for me there is no contest. Like you, I really don't give a rat's ass who likes what. I don't like Shiva either :D I don't even think you need trying them with the same exact set of speakers to make up your mind, it should be really easy to choose once you try both, they are different in very obvious kind of way.

Hey Chris, have you thought about going with two 1x12 cubes as an alternative? That way you can just take one cube for even more portability, or just put them together for a 2x12.

The Shiva head is slightly larger than a Bogner 1x12 cube but I think the cube would fit right between the amps feet or close to it, lol. I think Bogner makes a bigger 1x12 that fits it but then I would rather just have a 2x12 personally.

I think that's the way I would go if I got another Shiva since I haven't tried that yet, and since I'm getting older/lazy the thought of grabbing a single cube and head sounds enticing without having to resort to a 1x12 combo.
