Axe Fx as effects only (dumb question)

So...I've had this thing for 2 or 3 years, but don't REALLY know how to use it   I've always run it into a VHT and used the amp sim's, etc. Easy.

The question is, how can I set this thing up for just delay in the loop, and be able to switch it in, and out?

The amp obviously doesn't have a switchable loop, and I'm obviously a moron :D

I don't ever use effects, so I need the most idiot proof instructions possible

Any help is greatly appreciated!

on the back of the axe, there are the I/O 2's and they say send and retun, use those with the loop of your amp, and If you want to have it out the signal chain all together get a loop switch box of some sort.

Hey Josh,

Just connect the send to the back input, return to output.

Go into I/o on the axe and change it to rear

Go to global and disable the power and cab sims.

Go to layout mode if your are running a preset and hit effects bypass on the cab and amp block.

That should do it :)

What's up buddy? Long time no see :D

If I want to go from scratch, and just use delay, how do I route it so I can switch between delay and dry amp with midi? I'm sure it's easy enough, but you know me

Thanks dude!

Between the new puppy and work I have no time for anything anymore   He's getting big, around 20lbs now, 4 more months and he will be close to 40-50lbs lol.

But to answer your question, from scratch just add in a delay block, just make sure the in is routed all the way through the delay to the out, just press enter a bunch of times and it should add in the line between each empty block..

To switch the delay in and out you can have the instant access button on the Ground Control send a CC message to the axefx to bypass the effect, or a no brainer solution is to just create a new preset that just routes the in to out with no effects   Doubt it will sound 100% the same as if you had nothing in the loop.

Not a dumb question at all. Let's see what all the bloviating hype is about in this overpriced contraption. This is what I initially bought the Axe fx standard for - efx. I need no amp sims with my Herbert. No sim is going to replicate a Diezel Herbert, no way no how. You need 6 EL34s and 6 12AX7s to even come close to Mr. Peter Diezels ingenuity. I found the efx in the Axe fx to be ok, but not $1,800 better than my amazing $400 tc electronic transparent no drop-out patch shifting tc electronic g-major. Not in a half of a heart beat - Hello...

The Herbert is an amazing amp! I have had 3 GMajors and now a GMajorII. 1 GMajor had major knob and switch issues, one would crash at gigs and reboot like Windows(it got replaced under warranty), one was good. The GMajor 2 has had a reboot, locking issue from the day it was new. It has spent 7 weeks on the TC bench being repaired. It is back in my rack where it won't boot then after 20 ON/OFF cycles it finally boots only to lock up after 5 minutes.

I can't wait to replace it with my Ultra. I find the GMajor stuff sounds fine and I really like the spillover and Killdry features, too bad I don't trust them for gigs. IMHO, the Ultra sounds significantly better for delays and reverbs over the TC and the unit stays on and works.

When my AxeII arrives and the Ultra goes in the OD100 rack I may have a GMajII sledge hammer party.

Glad you are having good luck with your GMaj.

A. This is clearly a case of pilot error; I'm just not good with that kind of shit. I use locking tuners for a reason (and it ain't to stay in tune) :D

B. I know I'd have the same questions about the $400 G Major.

C. I like the models on the Axe. I feel I've gotten way more than $1200 worth of enjoyment out of my Standard.

Read the section about using your own preamp (same as using the AxeFx for FX only)

This makes it easy :)

I really can't afford to throw away $500, but it's already sat at TC for 7 weeks, I can't sell the thing because it doesn't work properly and I really don't feel like sending it back for another go at repairs...so, I may have to smash the crap out of it, maybe even light it on fire. Maybe I could get Brad to beat it with an umbrella. Perhaps I should start a fundraiser, give the money to charity or something..lol.

Right on fellow.

BSOD - that sucks, Mark - you must be jinxed. :(

Hey man if the tc stuff is good enough for my mentor, Alex Lifeson, (@1:55 of this vid) then it's good enough for me - g-force baby x4 Axe fx backup too boot.

Yah Mark, I’ve had a few blokes that had knob issues with the tc gear. But WTF for the price and you know…

All I need is a decent delay, verb, chorus and that’s it. Man 3 years ago my rack consisted of 8 19” stuff. Yah stuff. Fa-get-a-bout-it. Chord and amp – ala Herbert and I’m good-to-go.

Thanks Mark.

I'm clear on that part (thanks to Will), but I'm confused about how to go back to the dry amp. That's really my hang up, I get the rest.

I told you guys, I need the IDIOT proofed version, :D
