This was an impulse file I'd created and used with excellent results. I converted it for the Axe-Fx (firmware 6.01). Try it without a mic sim, or with some of the condenser mic sims.

Yes, I own an Axe-Fx. :boxer: If you're lucky maybe I'll make some goodies for all y'all who own them. :poke: For a taste, give this cab sim a shot. I've only had the Axe-Fx for a couple days and have had very little time with it, so this is the first thing I can offer up.

Here are two presets for the Axe-Fx I made using this cab sim:

If you don't use them with the cab sim, it'll just select the "user 1" cab slot and you won't hear anything. I highly recommend you do use my cab sim with these presets.

I don't use any of the cab sims, but I am very interested to see/hear what you can do with this thing.

With your knowledge base, I would imagine you can do some AWESOME things with the amp sims, cabs, etc.

Very cool

Using the Axe-Fx's cab sims (or one that you add yourself such as this) is a very useful feature of the device. I can understand why people might prefer to use this as a preamp only in their setups, but I'd rather see just how far I can go to use this as a standalone unit.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. :) Hopefully I'll have a few things to offer the Axe-Fx "community" which help make people realize how neat the Axe-Fx really is.

Welcome to the Dark Side, James. :)

One thing Cliff mentioned before that intrigued me was that when he was doing an amp model, he corrected some of the capacitor values when setting it up... I would KILL for some sort of Axe-fx toolkit where I could drag/drop/change amp parts, especially if it were accurate at all.

Could you imagine doing a prototype in 5 minutes and then swapping parts around at will? It boggles my freakin' mind...

Pete

I spoke with Cliff about how he works with amp designs to make them into "models" in the Axe-Fx, and he told me he doesn't just plop in resistor and cap values. He'll use the values from the schematic to determine various aspects of the design (gain, distortion, EQ of each stage) and then he programs it in that way.

Yes, I thought about what you're saying too. :) I'd even be happy for software that allows me to do what he does (since I work with "the math" a fair bit anyway before I do anything with components), but that sort of software is unlikely to be made. And since I'm not a programmer, I'm certain I wouldn't be able to do what he does.

PS. Try the cab sim. :) You'll like it...

James - it is awesome to see a tube amp maker embracing this technology that Cliff has created. As I've said many times, it doesn't replace my tube amps, but enhances them and gives me a whole set of new tools for a variety of differing needs. Well done...

Also, here's the original impulse file (it's 44.1KHz stereo), if you'd like to use this using SIR or some other plugin on your computer (file attached).

Hi James, I downloaded the file and try it later today. How did you made it? I've made some too, but decided to make a whole new start and bought Nebula...it seems like a cool product (too) but I haven't had time to make a single IR yet. I was thinking to practise by cloning my old Line 6 modulation modeller first.

+1

Hi James :)

With the right person at the wheel, this thing can get excellent results. All it took was hearing a couple of the later clips (where people got the EQ right after the cab sims) to convince me of that. If anyone denies this, I think they have a screw loose. :) So I won't be among people denying how good this can be. I've liked the idea of direct recording since I tried the original Rockman (back when the Earth was cooling) and I've tried every other direct device since, owning several over the years. This one trumps them all, no contest. So I had to get one. I said long ago if there were ever a direct recording device this good, I'd buy it. Just because I make and sell amps doesn't mean I have no interest in a device of this type.

Hi Olaf. :)

I love some of the clips on your site...count me as 'very interested' to hear what you come up with on the Axefx.

clips or it idn't happen!

I gots no time for clips today. I'm trying to catch up on my work before the move (that makes TWO moves for me in one year...ugh...)

Maybe later though...
