We had a chance to A/B the two at Matt's (mhenson42) a couple of months ago and determined that they did not sound alike... and hopefully my buddy Matt will get his new CCV in by this Sunday to compare again...from what I remember, Brad was going to send Cliff a reference amp right before the release of the Axe-fx II... does anyone know if that ever happened? Thanks!

yea... played axe 2 last night and tried ccv sim.... doesn't sound right to me...

The Axe-Fx II's CCV model is nasty. There's quite a bit of tweaking you can do but I agree, the base tone should be good. I don't like and rarely use it. Our fearless leader definitely needs to work on that one.

I agree... If I hadn't played a CCV in person, I would have thought... "damn these CCV's don't sound that good... wonder why folks like 'em"

I know Cliff has amps of most of the ones he has modeled, and I remember reading where Brad was going to send Cliff a reference model and just wanted to know if that had happened yet... if it did, then maybe Brad sent him a Bugera in a CCV shell! ;)

The Axe-Fx CCV patch I heard sounded like ass.

That an insult to the word ass.  I never thought the Mark series Boogie tone was accurate either. But I think they did a really good job with the XTC blue channel tone, and the HBE patch is pretty nice.

Cliff did not have an original CCV just an old schematic Rob sent him.

Thanks for chiming in Brad... The Axe-fx II model is definitely missing that CCV growl... any chance of you possibly sending him a CCV to get it to sound more like the real deal?

P.S. Can't wait to hopefully hear Matt's new CCV this weekend!

He wont have the amp this weekend. We are in California and he is on the east coast and its a 5 day ride once it gets on the bus. Next week though.

I noticed that the "default" patch called Cameron High, doesn't sound that great. But a little tweaking and you can get a really good tone from that amp in the AxeFX. Although, I've never auditioned a cameron amp in person, only heard them from videos and sound clips. I find I had to add a clean boost to get a sound semi-similar to clips. Which the actual amp definitely doesn't seem to need that.

We're not that far east, but from LA to SA, it's usually 3 business days via fed ex, so I'm not counting on the CCV for this weekend - so we'll probably push back the mini-ampfest another week to the 24th or 25th. I have to check with Jess so he can bring his CCV. So...we'll have 2 CCVs (old production and new production), 2 Axe FX IIs, and 2 Ceriatone Chupacabras (1 el34 and 1 6550), among other things, and lots of beer...
