I bet some of the cleans and semi gritty sounds would be plenty nice. Maybe some of the more gritty models might not sound as intended.....

A Twin has a lot of treble boost and a considerable midrange dip (12+ dB IIRC). You can flatten out the tone stack response by cranking the midrage and turning the bass and treble all the way down. However you'll still get some treble boost.
So the amp models might sound off. Now, if you were to just use it for the drive blocks and effects it would be no different than using pedals.

Ya know, I've been thinking about an Axe-FX lately (kinda hard to avoid at this point) and I though Bob's sounded great last week when I heard it in person, but I'm the kind of guy that keeps things pretty simple and it would be overkill for me FOR SURE.
For example, I really only use 1 or 2 sounds live, a little delay at times, and a volume boost for leads. That's it. Seems like I'm not a real good candidate for something like the Axe-FX.
