Axe FX / Matrix rig problems

I've been using my Axe FX with my monitors, headphones & for recording & it's sound great.

I just bought a Matrix GT1000FX & a FR212 cab & unfortunately it sounds really bad. Bassy, loss of highs & really artificial sounding.

Now, I know that the Matrix amp/cab combo is really popular for Axe FX & have heard a lot of demos that sound great, but I'm shocked as to why it sounds so bad for me.

Any tips or info from Matrix/AxeFx users would be much appreciated.

Are you using cab sims with the cab? If the cab isn't FRFR, it'll sound muddy to stack cab sims on top of a real cab.

Yes, I'm using cab sims, but isn't the Matrix FR212 totally neutral sounding & therefore should be able to handle cab sims?

Yes, with that setup you should be able to use the cab sims since it is an FRFR cab. When I had my GT1000FX, it absolutely slayed whether I was going into a regular cab or FRFR cab.

I haven't had that setup for awhile but make sure you have everything setup right with your AxeFx. Sometimes people will be using particular "outs" and didn't realize they forgot to turn something on/off, etc. It definitely shouldn't sound bad especially since you know what the Fractal sounds like with your monitors.

Also, just remembered something. When you are listening with your monitors you have two monitors and hearing everything in stereo. Since you only have one cab, you probably need to adjust that. It has been so long since I've messed with that stuff myself. I just play thru monitors now.

Sincerely, I'm not trying to be disrespectful at all, but you're in a amp/cab modeling environment. But I'm confident with your current modeling rig that you'll be able to achieve what you want to hear.

I took a few moments and I reached out to Mr. Andrew Hunt. As you may know, Matrix Amplification headquarters are located in the UK. Andrew is the engineer and designer of all the Matrix line guitar amps. Andrew suggested that you either call their USA contact directly at (208) 792-1685, and email their support guitar tech (Mr. John Hardman) at support@matrixamplification.com.

Good Luck.

Thank you for the info. I sent an e-mail to John & will await his response.

I REALLY want to make this rig work for me.

Have replied to doughboy. Will try and troubleshoot what the issue is with him.
