Axe FX or TriAxis?

I know a lot of the guys here are all about modeling now,but I am pretty tired of waiting to get an Axe Fx in and already have a Two Notes Live for IRs. I need to down size since I tore my Achilles and my wife will be hauling my rig for me for a while.

So, I'm thinking a TriAxis -> Two-Notes LIVE -> FX -> Board/FRFR.

I would probably grab an Eclipse or GForce or Lexicon PCM92 as well. So, 3 spaces for a Mesa rig vs 2 for the Axe. And a little more 4 for the Mesa/fx - but real tubes.

But I can't remember if the TriAxis can touch on Marshall, Soldano, Hiwatt, etc type tones. Is it just Mesa, so that's that?

Not looking for an answer on which to get necessarily, but more of a Triaxis experience opinions. :)

If this is temporary solution until you heal up and it's your wife hauling it, get whatever is lighter. Used Axe, 11R, etc abound.

Heal up fast.

If it's temporary, and unless you are wanting to try the AxeFX, just grab a used 11R. Or even a Line6 HD, that'd be even easier to carry.

Nobody in the audience will hear a difference or care, except for the tone guru soundman. He might complain that your tone doesn't sound more realer, but fuck him. He's a shithead anyways.

I ran one in my rack for a few years, its good, but I think the Soldano is better. It has some decent HG tones, but the dual rec patch is not a dual rec. It just never blew my socks off

Tired of waiting.....shop somewhere else. :D

Axe has been blowing my mind. I suppose it's safe to say I'm finally figuring it out

Just sayin'

I have the Axe II and I have been thinking about the Triaxis lately as well.

Honestly, I put my headphones on last night to play with the Axe and it was, WOW!!!

If you want to have everything, meaning multiple amp options, effects, various routing possibilities, etc it's just hard to beat the Axe. Great unit and I still have my amp heads, for when I get myself a Torpedo live as well

For gigs I am still using amp-->cabs with an Axe Ultra in the loop for effects. It's a killer, but keep considering going direct and/or with something "lighter."

Hope this helps and that your recovery is swift and easy Dave.

If you're using a 4x12 and a tube poweramp, Triaxis. Everything else, Axe.

Well, temporary could be over a year they say. So, I want something that I am happy with the first time in. Axe seems like the most logical solution, but I'm one of those weird guys who prefers new...

Yeah, this is the way I'm leaning. Really wish I could put a triaxis through it's paces. I hear preamp tubes really matter in what you get out of it.

Bingo

Ah, but there's the rub. Won't be able to use the amps and cabs for a while.

I've just been waiting for TM to get some. Every time they do, since Rob's a buddy, I always pass because he has so many people wanting them.

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm sure I'll end up with both,

Scott says the Triaxis is modeled in the Axe. Anyone know which modes, or all of them?

I had a Triaxis twenty years ago. Looong time ago... I'm not into modeling gear at all BUT if you do need to down size, get an Axe or a Kemper. You won't need anything else.

Actually, whenever I have to carry my amps/guitars/pedals/cables to a recording session, I keep saying to myself: "GET A FUCKING KEMPER!!!!"

My two cents.

Cheers

i had a v2 triaxis for 8 years and it was my live rig centerpiece. great tone and enjoyment.

my ultra stuffed it.

axe II probably double stuffs it like a keebler elf on uppers.

As for getting an A2 thru Rob and TM, to the best of my knowledge, there's no real mark up on them. Maybe just buy one direct from FAS, they're in stock. You can easily re-sell it for a couple hun off if need be, or inc. shipping and you're safe as gold.

I had the a TriAxis for a bit and it was great and all, but the Axe-FX was the winner hands down. Whether it's w/ a cab and a power amp or DI into the board the Axe-FX has been the best rig choice I've ever made for my rig. From playing in a metal, pop/punk or cover band it's covered everything I needed and more. Can't wait to get the II.

The Triaxis is all Mesa from MK1 thru IV and Recto. You won't hear Marshall or Soldano or anything else in. But, the Triaxis is a powerful unit and you get out of it what you put into it. There's loads of programming capability to be done, if you choose to, or keep it simple. As a preamp, it is my favorite and easy to use and damn near indestructible. I think it would run great with the Torpedo Live. There's a few preamps I would like to try again since getting the Torpedo.

We had a TriAxis rig last week....the dude is buying an AxeFx. The TriAxis didn't cut it at all and noisy too. I'd get a JMP1 way before a TriAxis. I'd still choose an AxeFx of course. If I thought the TriAxis sounded good I would tell you....it simply doesn't.

To answer your other question David, there is a great Mk1 green (clean), IIC+, IV, IV Lead and several old and modern Recto models in the AFX2. They all need a bit of tweaking on the EQ. The MkIV is one of the the best kick ass rock tones in the box.

You are limited like I said with the Triaxis. The Axe has another decade of technology in it. But, I will disagree with Mark's assessment above. I didn't find a Triaxis noisy. Probably needs services or roll some tubes. It's a Mesa thing. Anything with tubes though will never be as quiet as digital.

I have to disagree with the noise comment. I work with two guys that have been doing this a long time and they both said they are noisy. I have tried a few of these over the years and I've used other Mesa products in my rigs.....the TriAxis is not a shining star among Mesa's other products IMHO. The JMP1 walks all over it.

I thought you were using an AxeFx? Did I miss something? I don't read much here anymore due to time available, but I remember you saying the AxeFx was your new rig and how happy you were with it?
Did you ditch it? What are you using now?
