I wonder how I'd ever get along without it.

:jerkit:

it is still a modeling unit. it still takes you 20 years to fiddle with presets and variables, and it still lacks the tube warmth and added real-life presence of a tube amplifier running wide open. take the ROM battery out of the unit and you loose all of your precious settings - last time i checked i can take the tubes out of my amplifier and the settings stay the same. no solid state power amplifier or modeling unit will ever come close enough because electrons are why tubes work. you cant model electrons in a vaccum no matter how hard you try.

its the same reason you cant divide by zero.

no matter the price - its a modeling unit. the same category as line 6, eleven rack, vypyr, etc - the only difference is the increased complexity in options and algorithms. thats it.

IMHO I think the unit is steep in price especially new. That said I also think spending $3000 plus on a tube amp is steep as well but I have done that in the past but wont again. I still think tube amps sound better when you can crank them but I grabbed a Standard again when my situation changed where I wasn't playing with a band or was able to play my amps loud at home. Does it sound as good as a cranked tube amp or feel as good... IMHO no. But for some situations digital direct is a good choice. I feel the Axe is the better one of all the other digital units but not by a huge margin. It definitely feels better than any plug in I've tried in my DAW. Alternatively I could have gotten an 11R or POD HD but I felt the Axe even though more money was a better investment for what I wanted and what I could move it for if I ever wanted to.

Sometimes you have to sacrifice some things to have the best tool for the job. Sometimes you just can't crank tube amps to get to the goods.

I still think these guys who make these over the top comments about the Axe are too funny and I still like poking fun at the but sadly some people in the Axe community can be extremely condescendingly rude or hyper defensive of anything said in a negative light about the Axe.

I hate to get into the typical Axe-Fx Fray that seems to evolve with threads like this, however, I'm in the mood so to speak, so here's one for ya'll:

"Since my Purchase of the Axe-Fx Ultra, my "Stock" in the "Clear-Sonic Corporation" has reduced drastically!"

LOL more bashing of the Axe FX. To the OP, it sounded good in the vid, and sounded like a real amp, had you not posted it was an Axe FX the same peeps in this thread would not be talking about tube warmth and dividing by zeros.

As far as live tones and not being there. I have heard Lynch play live with tube amps and his tone stink while I have watched Lincoln Brewster and Chris Broderick live with the Axe FX and their tone was amazing. I think everybody takes it above and beyond in making statements that it cannot replicate this amp or that amp. The goal is to have good tone for the music you are playing and hope it stays consistent night after night.

I'm not interested in convincing anyone to buy the axefx

Try it

if you don't mind the learning curve of tweaking and dialing in a brand new rig you'll probably dig it.

Just sayin', I've got an extra 2U in my current rack build...

Know what I'm sayin'...??

If it had one DAMN 12ax7 in it I don't think people would hate it as much on RT

:powpow: :uzi: AXE FX

"There called Tube Huggers around these (RT) parts"

For a Digital processor to sound this good is Sacrilege on RIG TALK

All jokes aside diversity is what makes music keep rockin'

Mine sounds amazing.

I guess it helps to have some of the real amps to adjust the presets side by side with it. Thing I like is it will go much farther than the original plexi or the JCM 800. Into Fortin or Marsha modded territory. All the cleans are killer also! the Fender Brownface preset kicks major ass :rock.

The Axe Fx cleans up on the guitar volume knob great! Plus you can tell your playing different guitars on it Les Paul, Strat, PRS, etc. I find myself using my guitar volume more than I ever have on any amp for that matter.

You do have to spend some time with it adjusting it. Some people like it some don't. Very easy to navigator way easier than the Eventide racks or even the new pedals they make. :D

Also noticed " Rare guitar" is sporting an Axe Fx Avatar

MERRY CHRISTMAS RT

I really really really like mine.

Thanks for the help on your settings. I will have to mess with the Marsha a lil.

I find I use an amp, reverb, maybe delay os chorus or flange but mostly with out effects. So yeah guess I like it simple also.

The Ax isn't for me, but I can tell you right now that the tone you had in the vid is better than 95% of the players' I see here locally that we play gig's with. Regardless of the amp you sound like a great player and the tone is great.

I've played with plenty of bands that used high dollar tube amp rigs and their tones flat out sucked. Like my drummer always says about guitar players (yes, we let him talk once in a while when he's behaving) "It's the indian not the arrow".

That tone was GREAT! If I had the extra scratch I would go this route in a minute. I would get 2 FRFR cabs, one wedge type pointed at my face and one 2x12 type pointed at the crowd.

It probably should be better for me- a non-gigging, limited resource college kid who lives in an apartment, therefore being unable to get to the sweetness of a cranked tube amp for noise reasons. But I hate the learning curve of these things so much. I just don't have the time to fiddle with them for hours on end. On top of that, the price is way out of my range. So for now, until they get simpler (not likely) and the price drops, it's just not for me.
