Axe-FxII vs. Line6 POD HD (Ola content)

Thought I would post Ola's new video. Very interesting.

For the price, the POD HD is very nice sounding IMO.

 
I gotta say i thought the Line 6 sounded better. Price is right too.
 
I liked the POD HD better with the ENGL stuff and the Axe-FX 2 with the Mesa stuff.

I have the Axe-FX 2 and the Orange Recto is one of the best amps in that thing. Sounds killer with a boost in front.
 
Wow...the HD500 sounds really good. Sometimes it needs a little more highs and the Axe needs a little less but they are comparable.

I'd take the HD500 personally. The big bag of extra cash seems to buy you a cult with the Axe (TGP) as well as only 5-10% better sounds.
 
I saw this earlier and have been watching the shitstorm beginning on TGP :lol: :LOL:


Ola has put out a few killer videos in the last few days. I downloaded his PODHD patch the other day, I will have to get these now. I think they sound pretty comparable in the video. I still wonder how close they sound/feel in the room though. I still prefer these types of units through cabs and not direct.
 
i havent even watched the video but i have been praising the podHD for a very long time and rightfully so - glad someone took the initiative who owned an axe-fx and did a formal comparison instead of relying on others with seperate studio recordings or experiences to make a judgement call.

BTW the price difference is about $2,100. considerable enough, non-the-less.
 
The Axe sounds dryer and more raw. Line 6 stuff sounds pre- eq'd and like you'd have nowhere else to go with it. To me, I am interested in neither but would go Axe for my money. Sounds more like what I would hear out of a really good cab with really good mic placement. You could then apply EQ to it after if desired. Axe cuts more for me.

I fully agree, cuts way more. The Axe sounds more like a real amp.

line 6 products all have that signature "pre-EQ'ed" tone to them :doh:
 
i'm digging the pod HD sounds more in that vid

having owned a pod hd500 and recently an axe fx standard, both great units but i don't regret selling either

be interesting to see how Ola dials in a Digitech GSP 1101 or an Eleven Rack just to have some other basis for comparison,

great vid in any case
 
I honestly think the axe sounds more like a real amp would, more hair, more raw. The Line 6 sounds good and certainly every bit as usuable, but as far as realism, I gotta give it to the axe in this comparison. Both work extremely well. Pod sounds very smooth, I did not like the treadplate from the Pod though.

I think I like the axe 2 better, but still gotta hand it to the pod, in context it sounds very good. But then again Ola makes most things sound good.
 
I really don't know... They both sound pretty damn good.

It's a great comparison video though! And it keeps it to a specific purpose.

A definitive comparison video would have to be an hour long. And it would have to be a blindfold. And then I would rather just have them both!
 
Wow, I liked the Axe Fx much better. Not really that close to my ears.
 
The great thing is that both these units (and the Eleven Rack) have pushed the digital stuff beyond what was expected. It is really a great thing, regardless of what unit people buy.

I think looking at advantages/disadvantages of the units, the POD HD obviously wins in the price department and the Axe-FX wins with tweakability. If I didn't have an Axe-FX, I would definitely pick up a POD HD. Even for Fractal users, the POD HD would be a great backup unit for gigs.
 
The Line6 sounded very good still. I found the difference to be less between the ENGL amps but with the Mesa stuff, the AxeFX II had a much more detail and much richer texture to the tone. It made the Treadplate sim sound tame in comparison.
 
Also Most of the Stuff i have heard Ola do sound very similair, be it different amps etc. Also another player who can make pretty much anything sound like him and good
 
Overall the Line 6 POD HD sounds surprisingly good for the money. I would have to try one in person before I bought one, but it certainly got me interested.

It's interesting. After my 10th listen :lol: :LOL: I really started to notice that both units have the same "texture" to the tone, but the Axe-FX is definitely more defined in the low-lows and high-highs. The PODHD definitely has a more boosted midrange which makes the low-lows and high-highs less noticeable. This makes me want to experiment with putting a blanket scooped EQ across the output of the PODHD to see if I can "dial out" that pre-EQ mid boosted thing it has going and get it closer to the "scooped"or "hollow" Axe-FX sound.

Funny enough, that is the exact same thing I notice when I play my 5150 and my Recto. It is almost like the 5150 is a frequency limited version of the Recto :thumbsup:
