Im not blown away by the tone but If you asked me what I thought that it was made with, I wouldnt have said "Its obviously a modeller, you can hear the 1's and 0's" LOL!!! I cant tell the difference...

Pretty much what I was thinking.
I really like my Axe2 as a f/x box but I can't seem to gell with it for
direct recording...... I did play around with the tone match stuff today playing
around with some old Toadies tunes and thought it was neat how close and easy
it was to get close to the tones in the songs.

Don't fuck with Cliff, the dude is not gonna rest until the Axe produces the purest amp & effects tones in history!! lol

Sounds good, both the tone and reverb. The improvement in just about a year of release of the Axe 2 is amazing.

Ya gotta give it up to Cliff for being totally dedicated to bettering his product! The dude gets an A for effort & competitiveness!! He still has a ways to go but he'll get there. The cab/IR hassles are the main things holding the Axe back from being totally user friendly/plug n play. This I'm sure will be streamlined soon enough, even if it takes an Axe 3 to accomplish it.

Anyone who thinks that modeling/profiling is not going to make the tube amp/digital discussion totally pointless in a few years, there totally bonkers.

An app from an iPad/iPhone going wireless thru a couple 4x12's or Monitors is going to sound as good as any tube amp in years to come.

I hope your correct, I really do but for now the VH4 gets the live playing from me.

It would be soooooo awesome to get the same feel and tone that I get out my heavy rig out of something that only weights a few pounds......Bring it on I say!!!!!

Delivering quality, unaltered and original tone to the FOH is what its all about - whether it is generated from a tube amp being mic'd up or a modeling amp straight to the board. In this respect, I think the AFX does deliver the goods. The subtle differences in tube over digital aren't really that noticeable in that regard and without all the stage clutter/noise. I am getting more interested as things progress.....

I'm getting more interested too. That clip sounded like it came from a good sounding amp, whether it be a tube or modeler.

My only issue I've personally had with modelers so far (I've owned, the AxeFx Standard, 11R, HD500, and G3) is not being able to create an inspiring gig-level sound reinforcement. Many people are able to reproduce the tone they love with modelers at gig levels. I wasn't able to get there with the several affordable to me options that were available at the time (couple years ago) and I wasn't willing to get into the higher dollar outboard gear to get closer to what I wanted to hear. I totally realize I might be to blame for my own failure to achieve the sound I was looking for at gig level volumes.

I have a much easier and more satisfying experiencing using my tube amps.

The envelope keeps getting pushed with modelers. That is exciting to witness.

So with each update the tone apparently sounds better? I thought it sounded "just like an amp" when the first Axe clips ever surfaced!? ;)

I owned and gigged regularly with an AxeFx Ultra for almost 2 years and no question about it, it got the job done. My biggest complaint was not being able to really tweak on the fly and that was a little bit of a hassle.

The other thing that I have yet to experience is the feel issue. Maybe its just me and feel is probably subjective as well but playing through tube amps just feels better to me. I have no doubts that modellers and digital devices can and will put out glorious tones but there is a definite difference in the feel department.

Yeah, If the only thing that was available to play through was an AxeFx, Id have no problems accepting that but being that I do have choices, Id rather go with a Marshall and some pedals; Its simple and it works for me...

The clip sounds a bit stiff, missing that nice depth and roundness... But this isn't the Axe's doing. I am sure with a little more tweak, it'd sound phenomenal. What I will say is the nuances of the playing, the subtleties, these are what bring out the most realness in this clip. SO whoever laid this clip out, nice work. I've heard way worse with direct mic-to-speaker for sure.

Pretty bang on.

I'm waiting for the Axe 3
There is always that, in conjunction with the "I thought the first version of the Axe-II was supposed to do this perfectly anyway?!?!".

Kudos to the FAS team for constantly upgrading it, but ya, is it all lipstick or is this truly evolution?
