This is still up in the are for me, but i'm starting to look at power amps for a possible AxeFX setup. Would be used in small and large clubs. Not sure what power amp to pair with it, hopped up SS amp(800+ watts) or tube power amp.

Any suggestions? Power amps are not my thing.

Started with my trusty MosValve and it was okay. with the VHT 2-50-2 it's THE SHIT!

If you go solid state definitely get the most wattage withinn your budget of course. Id say 800-1000 will crush.

if you are on a mega budget and you don't mind luggin stuff, you can use your XXX as a poweramp ;)

With that said, Im with Ed on this! Either a VHT or Boogie 2:90 tube poweramp kills with this thing and I heard the Carvin tube poweramp aint bad either! You could also score an old Boogie Strategy 400 poweramp although its a bit bulky. Same goes for the peavey tube poweramps. they are great but bulky!!

Not nearly the same wattage, but my Ultra sounded great with my ADA B200S (solid state, stereo, 135 W per channel) and ADA 2x12 slant SplitStack cabs (I have 4, using 2 per side).

That said, I felt I wasn't getting the full experience from my Ultra since I wasn't using Cab sims and IRs, so I went to FRFRs. More difficult, initially, to dial in but it sounds much fuller though not "amp in the room", but I've sold/selling my old ADA gear now as I no longer need it. SPAM is below in signature.

2502 looks good but gonna be way outta my price range after the Ultra purchase. I had no idea they were that expensive.

checking out some SS amps for the time being. MosValves look good but they only have 4ohm outputs? is this pretty much standard on power amps or am I imagining things?

If you want to use your tube amp for tone / sound (not tube clean), you either need to blend it to use the Amp Sim (with the SAG parameter) or bypass the Amp sim completely, so the Axe-Fx is essentially a multieffects box then. At least that's recommended in the manual.

As long as the power amp (SS or tube) has headroom and provides clean power, and you don't want tube power amp based tones color, then either is fine IMO. In this case, with clean power, you could use the Amp block sim. (this is what I did pre-FRFRs) Other than hi-fi tube power vs clean SS, not sure if the extra cost for tube power, where your tone/sound/color is from the Axe-Fx, why you'd spend the extra cash on tube power?

Tube free here, and luvin' it, frankly.

I've been very happy with the all tube Carvin TS-100. Big bang for the buck. And loud too.

200 watts per side........very practible solution imo.....................

I agree with the VHT/2:90 suggestions. Or even an old Mesa 3:95 if you can find one. They're all solid as a rock.

A used VHT is under a grand bro.......keep looking at TGP and it will come.

Using it with a Boogie 2:90 and I feel it is too cruel to have another guitar player in the band... The other amps just aren't holding up to the Axe-FX / Boogie combination.

I started off with a Peavey Classic 50/50 and switched over to a Carvin DCM 600. I actually like the solid stater better but I've never had a chance to try it out with a great tube power amp. I think the Randall RT2/50 may be cool as hell with the tube switching, I know it was with my RM4.
