I've been playing B1 for the past 8 months or so, but after putting the XTC up next to my JCM 800 and fiddling with the controls last night, I think I like the sound of B2 more...

Anyway, what do you play on and what type of sound are you going for? I'm looking to get a big, but tight, clear and punchy distorted tone for metal. Basically, I want this sound here from JB:

Thanks!!

I can't use B1 or 2 without having the gain real low (no more than 11:00) without feedback and hiss. I use red on N setting with gain at 1:00 and boost on. Sounds killer.

I hate to be to one saying this, but most that tightness comes from hands & playing style. Other than that just put excursion on tight & you should be fine with the right guitar/pickup combination.

On a side note, from the questions/tone quest I've seen from you before, you should be looking for a Diezel.

You're absolutely correct; most of the tightness does come from the hands. However, you can't turn a Recto into a Diezel (in terms of tightness).

The clip I was using as an example is with the XTC and a Les Paul. Think I nailed that tone over the past few days, and I've gotten what I want with these settings:

Red Channel
Brightness: B2
Structure: H
Excursion: L
Presence: 3:15
Treble: 11:00
Mids: 2:00
Bass: 2:00
Gain: 1:30
Boost: On
Volume: 1:00
Style: New
Power: 100w

All this into a Greenback loaded Recto 4x12 makes me very happy!
