This guy's playing is insane. Im pretty sure its not a Strat on those live clips. Probably a Les Paul, but thats just my opinion. I'd really like to know what you think.

The second clip does sound like Strat or at least a Strat with humbuckers, but who knows? A lot of wah going on :lol: :LOL:


Anyway, i love his playing and "Another destination" is awesome. His stuff with Europe was pretty cool, but there is no comparison with his solo stuff.
 
Only the third clip worked my phone for some reason but nonetheless :rock: :thumbsup:

Sounds like it could be a strat to me :dunno:
 
I'm a huge Norum fan.

I can't listen to the Europe stuff at all, but, his solo CD's are in heavy rotation on my Ipod. :thumbsup:
 
I dunno..kinda sounds like single coils to me..got that chime..

anyway..big norum fan for many years..guy's a crazy good player, good tone, ain't shitty as a singer neither ;)

To me, this one sounds like a Strat. The other clips, i dont know man.
 
Big john Norum fan. Killer player. He did play strats then along with his Les Pauls.
Great tone, great phrasing.
 
Love Europe, love Norum more! He is a god in my books. Tasty chops.
 
Yup it's strats on the Face It Live disc! He was using Schecter Superstrats back then and had some with all Singlecoils and others with Hum/Single/Single setup.

I definetely hear humbuckers on those songs, if its a Strat, its HSS im sure.

Yeah man, he's definitely using buckers on some songs. But on most of the songs, especially on his unaccompanied solo, it's all singlecoils.

Killer! Btw, John is using a vintage HiWatt in this solo, right? Which one? Custom 100?

Not sure which Hiwatt it was, but I'm betting he was running a Marshall Guvnor pedal into the front end to get that kind of gain/sustain. He was on a major Gary Moore kick at that time, so it would make sense.. He used the Guvnor pedal into a Soldano on the Don Dokken tour as his main OD tone.
 
Man, ive been using a Guvnor plus a lot lately and i really like it. Great pedal, has a lot of gain. And btw...





John was on fire!
