I really dig the look of EVH's Hockey stick/Kramer axe.

For the money...whats the best deal, if i want that "type" of guitar?

I don't need all the lines and shit, but if the EVH "stripe" series is the best deal, then so be it...

I also don't necessarily have to have HH, like the Pacer; a single Hum would work.

I've read the '84 RI Kramers are crap. Every-now-and-again you can find an 80's Kramer Pacer in really good shape original, for about 300-500$.

Is the guitar i'm looking for really a build project, either custom or a KNE, Musikraft, Warmoth...?

The input from you guys is the best....you're better than the interwebz...

Musikraft.

Or find a Holy Grail Baretta. ($$$)

The EVH stripe series don't have the hockey stick headstock, they're strat heads.

EVH now has added the "5150" (hockey stick) to their lineup in the stripe series....Their take on the guitar he used (some) on the '84 album/tour.

+1 on Musikraft, when they aren't booked solid on OEM work. They have the right headstock shape, not an approximation and their build work is solid.

The new EVH Striped Series 5150 guitar has a terrible headstock. It doesn't look close to the original. In fact, even with the real Kramers, the headstocks changed size and shape very shortly after the Holy Grail Barettas. They didn't make too many of those before they got crushed with orders and had to sub some of the work out, I think to ESP. And things changed a lot then - headstock shape and size, Kramer logo, then body shape and contours, and they kept on changing. They really never went back t the original Holy Grail like in the old No Bozos shirt ad.

The No Bozo Holy Grail is more like an ESP Lynch shape, and IMO the best looking headstock of that type.

Agreed. Hate the look of the EVH 5150 headstock. Looks more like the old Hammer headstock.

Love my Tokai Super Edition version of EVH's guitar. I think headstock shape wise it is most accurate to Ed's actual guitar. I may pull the ad for my Tokai but I do need the cash as well...

i'd really love to have a plain-jane, maple neck/board, no frills paint job guitar...that is resonant.
the graphics are cool looking, but the more i look at those EVH/Lynch (style) graphic ...i'd rather not have'em.

there's an alder body with FR and bridge pup on my local CL. i could just get that, and buy a nice musikraft neck. Would there be any issues with going this route? body is strat style, should be the proper scale for a 22 fret neck.

thanks guys

Sometimes the heel width is different, I’d buy a Musikraft body and neck together. They’ll drop ship it to MJT for paint if you want.

Find a used Mean Street guitar. I got one from GC used for $400. It was top notch everything.

I’ve got a MS (white/Black stripes). Mitchel builds a good guitar. And if I find one I may snatch it up.
