Wow, I had one once and really liked it! I didn't have the modded one though. The one I had didn't seam to compress at all.

bummer!

i really thought that was gonna be a good one?

the regular old DD is pretty good with a Marshally amp, but didn't get along with some other amps too good.

So the hype here caused me to get a Barber Direct Drive w/MOD. Sounds okay (just)... but the TIM and Timmy pedals I have sound so much better to me. The Barber is compressed compared to the Timmy and TIM. I spent several hours with it last night through my JCM800 tinkering with all of the trim pots, etc and I still couldnt get rid of the compression. Looks like after this weekend, I will get rid of it.

Damn, I was really hoping you would like it! Sorry dave. Man I thought this pedal was really open sounding.. I know you most likely already tried this but lowering the gain to around 10 o'clock and put the pedal on high gain with the level up? Also switch 3 opens the pedal up a little bit... Which pedal do you like best through the 800? (tim or timmy)

Funny thing is Paiges MIJ SD-1 beats out most of these high priced OD pedals for me. BB Preamp, MI-Audio pedals, OCD, the Timmy, etc. I think i like the old SD-1 the best.

Sucks to hear Dave.

Would you mind describing the Tim and Timmy? Are they basically an optimized tubescreamer? I'd like something for a JCM 800 eventually that will add gain and a hint of compression but still retain the natural character of the amp.

How are they different feature wise?

thanks

Wow, I'm glad you posted that, was fixing to pull the trigger on one myself. Maybe I'll wait for further info. That's one thing I would NOT like. Thanks Dave - Jim

Hmm. Every clip I've heard with this thing sounded great. Maybe it's the mod that's causing the issues

lol...that's exactly how I felt about the Timmy. I couldn't get rid of that pedal fast enough

I have the Timmy, never use a Tim. The Timmy has 4 knobs, Volume, gain, treble cut, and bass cut. The Tim ads a boost and I am not sure what else.

The Timmy to me sounds nothing like a tube screamer, very transparent, no mid hump. It does a good job of retaining the amps nature character. I like it a bit better as a boost than as an overdrive into a totally clean amp. I think the Timmy works great with my Vox AC50, Mesa mark IV, and Fender Brown Super. I don't like it much with my Fender Bandmaster reverb, which I prefer a tubescreamer type pedal.

Thanks for the reply. From your description, it seems like I would be happier with a tubescreamer style pedal.

BTW, I've got the Direct Drive SS, which is supposed to be what the mod is based off of. I wonder if they actually sound different though...

Is it the new SS or the older one with just presence and bass?
