Got offered one of these in a trade for my Rio Grande Crunch box. Like the Rio Grande a lot, just don't have a use for it. Didn't like it in my Semi-Hollow, and I want to put chrome covered 'buckers in my new 'Paul that's on the way (Friday  ).

Would this be something I'd dig? You guys know what I like. Needs to be pretty versatile. Mostly brootalz high gain, but I play everything in between as well. Grunge, 80's rock/metal, Prog stuff. Lots of clean playing and the blues as well. I need something that can do it all. Doesn't have to be the best at everything, but it needs to be able to pull those things off when it can. The high gain and clean stuff is the most important.

Does this pickup sound good split? I'd like to set this guitar up with a push/pull on both pickups for split sounds. Also, what neck pickup would you recommend for it? Won't be changing that out for awhile most likely due to money, unless someone wants to trade some more pickups (see my thread in the Classifieds)

Thanks for the help mates. You're all always a valuable resource. Don't know what I'd do without you

If you dont like them, Ill buy them off ya. I think I want to try them again.

Just getting a bridge 'bucker. If you only need the one, then it's all yours. You've got first dibs.

Haha how ironic. Found a post on a different forum about the Crunchbox vs. the Nailbomb. Nice.

Just read though it..not sure if I should take anything posted as true. The nailbomb is "much better", "cleans are great", then "cleans are flat and lifeless", then "the crunchbox cleans are great" only to later see "I liked the crunchbox for it's gain tones, but it was flat sounding for cleans"

Not the most helpful, but it's information non-the-less. Give it a read.

Ive never heard a high output humbucker in the bridge that does well at clean tones.

I've heard a lot of people say that. I can't say I've had the same experience. Despite my disbelief, I actually enjoyed the clean sounds from my EMG loaded Les Paul years back (put an 85 and a 60A in it), and my GFS Crunchy Rails in the bridge of my Semi-Hollow sounds pretty good. Is it the best clean tone? Not by any means. But it is useable.

I prefer singles/split for clean tones anyway, which is why I asked about splitting it. My RG-770DX is wired up to split on the 5-way switch, and I love it for clean sounds. Also dig the super-glassy clean sounds On Dream Theater's "Awake", which Re split. I use 'buckets for clean as well, but really like the split sound. If I could get both, I would be very hall . Doesn't have to be the best, as I'll record with something else if need me. But I'd like it to be useable on stage in a band situation.

Sorry about the poor grammar/misspelling. New iPhone doesn't like RT for some reason. I can't see what I'm typing when I'm posting. Just have to go for it and hope for the best.

iPhone 3G and 3GS, as well as the Touch models rendered RT just fine. Never had trouble. Maybe it's an iOS4 thing, not specifically a iPhone 4 thing itself. I'll have to look into this tomorrow. Try RT on a 3G/S that's upgraded to iOS 4, see what happens.

Think it's time for a mobile RT!

C'mon now guys, I need some help here! I thought you dudes loved the Bare Knuckle stuff. Are they not the flavor of the week anymore?

Nailbomb sounds great coil tapped, clean or dirty, at least to my ear. It's the most versatile pickup I know of, but it's definitely not the right pickup to play BB King.

Well like I said, the high gain and clean stuff is the most important. Progressive metal w/ clean and acoustic breaks in the songs. So it needs to be able to handle the quick switch from high gain to the clean sounds. It sounds like it might be able to do it. Anyone else?

I don't know about a quick switch, you will need a clean channel & coil tap the guitar, if you can do it quick, then it should be fine.

Oh yeah, that's what I mean. Fully on or split coil clean sounds from a clean amp/channel. Thinking right now I'll be A/Bing a Dave Friedmen modded Jet City 20 Watter, and something for cleans. Would like to get that silverface Vibrochamp Jim Soloway is selling, but I really don't have the cash.

I'm so tired of not having a gig-worthy rig, or something I'm not embarrassed about having :(
