I hear you chubtone.. I have always used Duncans.. My favorites are the 59 and the custom 5, but they are just not working for me with the new amp.. The JB is working bettter and I have never been a big fan of the strong mid-honk, but strangley enough I happen to like it a little more with this amp than the 59s or Cutsom 5's... If I could get a JBish type pickup without have the strong midrange, I's be a happy camper.. The Rebel Yells seem like they might be a good replacement.. Maybe even the Mules..

And thanks to everyone with some useful info.. I will prolly be emailing Tim @ BK this weekend.. That clip did sound great..

What's the new amp? The Custom 5 to me is very scooped and the JB has nice warm mids. If the C5 isn't working with the new amp and the JB kind of is, those mids you're trying to take out of the JB might be the thing making that pickup "work" with the new amp.

Chubtone, those clips sounded great... The 59 is one of my favortite pickups. It flat out rips with my Splawn Modded Marshalll. I love the spongy like feel it has..

The new amp is the Marsha. The 59 is sounding like ericsabbath described it with the Marsha.. Also has this really terrible high end.. The JB is working better for me now with that amp, but Im still not a fan of that huge mid range going on.. Its wierd it almost sounds like the 59 issn't wired right and is split or something. I know it isn't though and its great in the splawn.. I just need to find something that works good with both amps.

All I wanted to do was counter ericsabbath's comment about the Duncan '59. You know lots of people will read that and get a negative impression on the '59 so I posted my clips to show that maybe the '59 isn't all that bad in every case. The old guys had it easier, didn't they? For them it was, "Fender or Gibson? Marshall or Fender? OK, now let's get down to business." And we are all here splitting hairs like we all belong in a loony bin.

That seems strange that a '59 wouldn't sound good with what is a Marshall inspired amp. I believe you, don't get me wrong. This is all such an insane chase that we all are doing here. I don't even have a '59 in the bridge of any of my guitars anymore as I have tried tons of other pickups since I recorded that clip. But I listen back to that clip and think that in the right hands my setup for that clip could have taken someone somewhere and all I have been doing since I recorded that clip is chase my own tail.

  So true.. That clip sounded very good.. It is very strange thing with the 59.. It had been my favorite pup with my other amps.. Just not agreeing with the Marsha as well.. It sounds like it is split and has a nasty high end going on.. Even with the treble and Pres. off ... When I engage the Fat switch though it helps it out. Its good a low volumes but when it gets up, I can't use it..

Wasn't the Duncan JB Steve Stevens pickup of choice when he was creating all those cool tones that led him to deserve his own signature pickup 25 years later? Just sayin'

what are you getting at? are you saying just get a JB because thats what he used back then? if so, good point

and if not, then i am a idiot

Halford

Well, I didn't say that in words did I? :D I mean you can go buy a Duncan Warren Demartini signature RTM for $160 or you can buy the pickup that Warren created all the sounds that made him popular enough to warrant a signature model pickup. But that's just a boring, $69 Duncan JB and where's the excitement in being able to start an interesting new thread about a boring old pickup?

No offense to the original poster of this thread.... I'm just commenting on the world of forums where you'll read a thread about how some kid in Poughkepsie got rid of his Boss GT-10 because it was too digital and fake sounding for someone of his stature and then you'll go see Nuno Bettencourt rip your head off with sick tone while using a Boss GT-10. I just ache so badly knowing these poor pros don't know as much about gear as us forum guys do and that maybe some of them could have been contenders and done something with their guitar careers if they had been as gear enlightened as we are.

LMAO, put it back on, and LMAO one more time :D
