i have been really wanting to order a "build to order" amp for a while and have gravitated towards baron and splawn. i have been looking at the barron k88/k2 series amps as well as the splawn nitro. they both sound great in the videos and clips i have heard, but it is hard to tell which one may sound better for the chuggah chuggah type stuff i play. any opinions or other clips i might not have seen or recomendations would be nice  .

hard rock/metal type stuff is what i play, and both amps sound awesome but i cant pick a clear winner, so can yall help me decide which will suit me better ??

Think Marshall vs soldano, as spawn vs baron.

Choose by flavor as both are killer.

from clips, definitely Baron for me
but I love pretty much everything I heard from Splawn as well

thats a good way to put it. i have never been a true fan of marshall, but also havent given them much of a chance either. the clips of the splawn stuff sound good, but so do the baron amps clips. either way i go i am putting kt88's in it. this is gonna be tough, although i am kinda leaning towards baron by a slim margin.

Ive worked with Dave @ Baron twice I have the M60 and B60
you will get a lot more custom choices with the Baron .and they are somewhat similar in tone

i am absolutely in love with my nitro, it is the ballsiest amp that just gives you a punch in the gut every time you hit a muted note. pure brutality with the bass and lower midrange. i run it in stereo with a promod, to add in a little more of the upper midrange, and that combination is sonic nirvana.

Thanks for the info. I think this is gonna be a matter of looks because it seems both amps should do what i want, and both companies make an awesome product so looks is the only other thing that could come into play with this decision right lol ?

I haven't tried a Baron, but I'd recommend a Splawn any day of the week. I really don't think you can go wrong with either though.

I like the Marshall - Soldano / Splawn - Baron analogy

The Baron will be more customizable as mentioned. Down to cap values and shit like that. They seem to have a smaller form factor. I'm sure the build quality is awesome. I've never played one.

The Splawn will def be more of modded Marshall tone with more low end and bass as mentioned. I've never played a Nitro but my Quick Rod has more than enough low mids for me. Out-side of the power tubes on the Nitro the rest is just stock no options outside of the headshell. The build quality on the Splawns is phenomenal and Scott answers the phone personally and provides Class A customer service. Much like Dave does I'm sure.

Honestly, both companies have provided great communication and customer service, but in terms of tone, the Baron Amps are the better choice, period.

I love my Splawn 4x12 with Big Blocks to death, but my Baron K2 is the longest standing amp in the amp stable over here. I've had over 20 different amplifiers in the past year, and the Baron is the only one I haven't sold. I have sold off a modded 5150 II, a FJA Penta, two Rectos, two Engl Savages, a 5150, a JVM and a Fridman Modded Windsor just to name a couple. The only amplifier that I never thought twice about selling was my Baron. The tone is off the wall, the build quality is excellent, and the communication is second to none. Go for it.

Both are great. I had very good experiences with my Splawn builds and I love my Nitro. Howwever, I think it needs a boost to get really thick. The Baron K88 that I played was bad ass. It did not need a boost and there were tons of settings to offer more tonal options. I have heard wonderful things about Dave's customer service and my dealings with him have been exceptional. You wont go wrong either way. I do think you have more options with a Baron but if you don't mind using a boost both will be killer amps.

I was in the same place two years ago, I choose Baron. I played the Quickrod and loved it but ordered the K88, I don't regret my choice. In fact I'm waiting for my B60 from Dave in April. Dave Woodhouse is a great guy and builds a top notch amp!!!

I build to order and a little cheaper too.
thanks

I've owned splawns..But never owned a Baron....I'm postitive I'd go with the Baron.. :D

The baron has the clear advantage right now. I wont be order for prolly another week so i have more research to. Ill prolly check out what jerry has to offer as well.

baron as if it hasn't been said before,

owned the K2, and loved it, maybe shouldn't have sold it,

but i'm an idiot

to be honest i've never liked splawn and never seen the appeal,

so really goes back to personal tastes,

so whatev

get the baron, you won't be disappointed, or so i think!

Be prepared because there is a bit of a wait at Baron. I placed a B60 order a few weeks ago and probably won't see it until July according to Dave. But if you want to get in line, the sooner the better.

Oh, and I had a Splawn Quick rod. It was my favorite of all amps that I have sold but it was kind of a one trick pony and I am hoping for a bit more flexibility. It cut through the mix like nobody's business however. Have not tried a Baron in person but am looking forward to giving it a try.

There's a very good reason there's a wait too.. Dave does some insane work :)
