Thinking about 1 odf the 2 for 80s hair, thrash and 90's rock/metal. NO downtuned, drop modern stuff, just old school Dad metal from my youth. Some classic rock as well.

Can the 100 get as heavy as the JJ?

I have both and I would say it's all relative. The be has the options and gain to get in the ballpark but they have a different feel, different response and I find the jj to be far more heavy. The be can be heavy too, dont get me wrong and in a band setting the audience might not notice a difference but in a recording or practice setting I think you will hear it and you would feel it too.

I have the BE50. It can get pretty mean. I've not compared them to the BE100 and JJ.

But I'm really curious how it compares to those two.

I also have the Butterslax. The BE50 can get close to that kind of mean of the Butterslax, minus the two power tubes difference. So, I think the BE50 has got to hang with the JJ.

Perhaps should post in the Friedman section.

I had both amps at the same time and the updated BE-100 could easily hang with the JJ I really couldn't justify owning both if it was a pre-updated Be-100 I think that would be a different story .

Hang with each other, yes, same ballpark, yes. But still different... my be seems to fit the 80s needs, my jj is better suited to the 90s needs. If you need 80s and 90s i feel the jj is a better fit for my taste. Haven't tried the be50 though, it might pull them both off...

I cannot find anyone, except Dave, that has played all the non-SB Friedmans and can give a detailed comparison. ...but Dave's not very verbose: ha!

I can tell you that the BE50 can almost hang in terms of gain with the Slax. Yes, the Slax is more brutal with two more power tubes, but the 50 gets really mean as well. Boost it and you're there. However, you do have to have the SAT switch on the BE50 to match the Slax tone. The Slax is like basically always having a SAT switch on.

Point being, the BE50 can do metal. But no Friedman does djent or super tight metal. They can benefit from boost to tighten things up.

Thanks for the input guys. I will check out the Friedman forum (doh)!

No djent or new metal here. at 46, I am too old for that shit!!! :)

Wondering if the Be 100 will outclass my Chupacabra 100.

Dude. Dokken/Ratt/Dio/Maiden/Slayer are my wheelhouse. I have a BE-100 (2018) and it is, in my opinion, the greatest hard rock/Metal amp ever for this stuff. I get good thrashy tones ala Kreator and the like just as well as Dio and Priest. Lots of tones in this amp for sure especially if you have access to different speakers.

I hear the JJ to be more raw Marshally pissed off tone maybe slightly less gain. The BE100 while still Marshally it's less raw a bit more compressed and smooth.
