So I know Friedman cabs come without casters as Dave likes the interplay of the cab and floor. Have any of you installed casters only to find "thump" missing? I immediately installed casters upon bringing home my BE half stack but have noticed the BE100 half stack at the local Guitar Center (without casters but same version) thumps more. Thoughts?

Sounds like you've answered your own question. ;)

You can have casters and still have loads of thump you just have to re-jigger your rig to sound thicker. I know a lot of guys like the sound of the cab on the floor but your sound is now dependent on the type of stage you happen to be playing on. Play on tile or cement and you're not going to be getting that thump like you would from a wooden stage. I personally liked removing as many variables as possible when I played out. Always the same guitars, same pups, plug into a voltage regulator, cable instead of wireless, cabs on casters. YMMV

This is an ongoing debate...what’s better.
Personally I need easy, so my can is in an Anvil cases base with the top removed. Then I just drop the top back on after the show and use it away with the head case, pedalboard case and “gig bag” on top. Everything in a nice neat package on wheels.

Basically I agree with Oblivian here, just dial in the tone with the gear the way you use it. I play many different venues with MANY different stage set-ups. So anything that makes my life easier, I do.

That said, for recording I might take the casters off and let the cab be on the floor. Yet that is a specific situation where many variables are controllable.

Try it out both ways and decide what you like and what you can live with. Carpet is different than wood, is different than cement, is different than plastic or composite. YMMV

---{ COUPLING is the desirable or undesirable transfer of energy from one medium to another medium }---(I prefer desirable)- its not about what the floor is made of its about what's the weakest link... The Connection...

-(ain't no nob on any amp that changes undesirable to desirable)- Sorry Dave Friedman...

I might just take off the casters and use a cart/dolly/roller thingy when you need to move it around. The benefit to one of those roller cart things is that it’s really quick to shove it under the cab to decouple it from the floor if the room needs it.

I had no wheels on my BE412 for a couple years. i just put some on recently. Really no difference that i can tell, but the floor in my jam spot is concrete anyway. If there is a difference, i don't notice it.

I'm sure on a wooden stage or something, it would make more of a difference, but i'm mic'ed on stage anyway

I certainly have never lacked "thump"

Fucking thing on its side.
Old skool tone and keeps the casters on for quick moving when her husband comes home early.

Seriously, for "decoupling" off the floor, The Aurlex Great Gramma riser is the way to go. I have two of them. Works great on cement floors.

I picked up a set of Mesa casters that are removable for my Friedman BE-212. Solves the problem of floor coupling.
