I've had my BE for almost two years now, and a couple of nights ago it died whilst I was using it. I thought it might just be my cable, but it wasn't. I plugged into the Return with the loop on, and I got sound back - it's bound to be a pre amp tube? I've never changed one before (never had a tube go on me before).

I also just tried to take a pre amp tube out, and I just can't get it out. What's a good technique? I don't want to wreck it.

...while pulling straight up from the chassis.

Another technique is to wiggle the tube a bit sideways while pulling them out. Just don't squeeze too tight.

Grab it with channel locks. If that doesn't work try vice grips.

A light circular motion helps me.
That's what she said \:D/ Yeah, that did the trick.

Cheers

Where do you guys get your tubes from? Any recommended sites? Mines a 2014 with the Ruby HG+.

I gave them the tap test, and the one in the middle sounded a bit hollow compared to the others.

Still no sound with the effects loop on. I put a new tube in, and I have sound through the normal input, but still nothing with the loop on.

When the BE's loop is engaged, the return level knob on the back of the amp becomes the master for the amp.

Yes, I know that.

This is pissing me off. The guy I bought it through has gone out of business, to make things worse. I gotta take it to other bums who I don't know or trust. How does the lifetime guarantee work, when the guy I bought it through has gone out of business? Sending the amp all the way from NZ to LA is out of the question.

My power supply is fine, my cables and leads are fine. There's a problem with the loop.

if you got it from Ryan he is still around, just doesn't have the shop anymore. He is damn hard to get hold of though. I'm sure you know about Clarry at 34 audio? heard nothing but great things with him

GearFan, contact Dave and he'll work with you and your technician through it!

I've solved my problem, which turned out to not be amp related. It was the first pedal in the loop causing the issue - sometimes working, sometimes not - making it hard for me to pin point what was happening.

Let this be a lesson. Step 1, plug directly into the amp.

Oh, i thought the lesson was dont come on an amp forum insinuating something is f'ed up with your amp, when you arent even sensical enough to remove your own pedals from the equation when troubleshooting

When a guy can't get a pre amp tube out of it's socket, you gotta ask every dumb question there is to be asked......

All this time for that!!!!!

:gethim:

Troubleshooting 101, rookie mistake, I will say that some folks do have a better mind for problem solving the others.

true, and have no problem with people not knowing anything about amps, being new to tubes, etc - I'm far from an experienced hand, myself...

but then i wouldnt be making comments like 'STILL' not working...or 'theres a problem with the loop'...or other negative comments about an amp if i didn't understand what was what...
