Beard

I’ve had a goatee (first) and then a close-cropped beard (more recently) for years. At this point it’s salt with just enough pepper to taint the census. It’s not “Santa white”, but it’s more white than gray.
I’ve never let it go, and I’m sure I’ll hate it, but game on 🤷. I’m hoping by Christmas I look like a dude that should be in a cabin in Idaho. Writing a manifesto. On a manual typewriter. While ordering random electronic supplies, ball bearings and crock pots from Amazon 😆

I always had a mustache and goatee. When I got around 52 half of my mustache was white and the other half was black. It was the most retarded thing I ever saw. So I shaved for the first time in a couple decades. My face broke out like a mother fucker. No matter what fancy cartridge razor I used. Then I discovered safety razors and straight razors. These days I shave on Sundays. It's a half hour I have to myself to listen to some cool tunes, no one bugging me or rushing me out of the bathroom. It's nice.

Just for Men? 🤨
I tried it once and surprised my wife: "is that shoe polish?"
I keep a full beard in winter and go down to a goatee in summer but have noticed something recently, it seems about every guy my age has a white goatee...we all look alike.

And i think it's finally time for some type of beard balm. The older i get, the more my beard goes its own way...time for more control, especially when i occasionally dress to the nines. Would appreciate recommendations!

Anyone have recommendations for a beard trimmer that maybe can be used for mansacping too?

I've been using a set of Wahl hair clippers from the '60s, maybe late '50s that my mom used to cut my hair when I was a kid. The Wahl clipper-oil bottle is over 50 years old. When I saw the same brand oil in a hairdressing-supply shop a few years back and told them how old my bottle is and that it's still at least half-full, they were beyond-shocked.

Point being that I've no idea what's out there these days but I'm convinced that something with "spacer" technology would be extremely-handy. Trying to trim a beard or goatee without such assistance is tiresome at best. If it can mansacape, all the better. You never know your luck in the big smoke.

I use a double edged razor for my cheeks, neck and under my nose. A heavy duty stainless shavette which basically a cut throat razor that uses disposable double edge razor for the blade for inside my goattee and between my moustache and nose and to tidy up all the lines of the goattee.

Occassionally I use a set of wahl battery operated clippers using a #2 1/4 (6.0mm) comb to just thin the goattee... that's easy you just run over it and it takes the length out of it.

D'Oh!

I said Braun... I meant Wahl. Will edit the post and quote now.

I do the same, if I'm understanding you - comb in left hand, clippers in right, but it's hit-and-miss; I need something more-definitive like a built-in spacer if that's even a thing.

Thanks you brother; much-appreciated.

No the comb goes on the clippers and is the "spacer" that adjusts the length of your hair. So the wahl clippers I have comes with various combs with different heights depending on the final length of your hair/beard. You can take the comb right of the clippers and use the clippers to do a "rough-in" if you started with a beard and want to do a goattee from that ie take most of the hair off the areas you are going to later shave. Then you do a final shave with the DE razor and get all your lines sharp with the shavette.

I’m growing what I like to call a beard. As long as I keep my neck trimmed or shaved it doesn’t bother me. Neck beard though….nope… plus I got that specific white boy gene that my facial hair is red so it looks kinda retarded but I don’t care. Plus the couple grey or white spots look even dumber. But I don’t care… fuck it.

This is in Japan. Japanese stereotypes confirmed.

I had a moustache and sideburns for awhile, with similar glasses;

kinda like this:

now, I have permanent 5 o'clock shadow. I use a beard trimmer at the lowest setting, and shape the outline; instead of shaving.

That sounds like me. A mix of red and blond with random patches of white starting to come in. At least it's full and doesn't look like rat mange. Can't stand a neck beard either. It irritates me so I keep my neck shaved.
