Been 100+ degrees here in Arkanas for about the last week, and the A/C just crapped out in the house..

House was built in 1995, bought it about two years ago and it may be the original unit. Talked to the A/C guy on the phone, he thinks it's a compressor. I'm hoping it something like a bad switch or valve, etc.. I just hope we don't have to buy an entirely new A/C. That's going to put a major damper on the GAS. LOL

Thank God! Just a bad capacitor. A/C guy just left.. $350 (including weekend/emergency call out) and the A/C is back up and running. Going to start putting money back for a new HVAC unit though, it's only a matter of time with 27 years on the current one.

Thank goodness?
Nothing worse than wasting money just to keep necessities running,
Replacing fridge, stove, furnace, roof, windows, always feels like money wasted…

Yeah, I don't know about all that.. it's kinda nice having those things. Where it gets me is we just spent about $600 to have a fan motor replaced on the outside A/C unit about two months ago, and it would have pissed me off royally to have had to drop $7000 on new system just months after dropping $600. THAT would have been a kick in the nads.. LOL

Now you know.... FIRST thing you check is the capacitor. In fact, its a good thing to have an extra on hand to save you from the extreme fees for emergency calls. Even if you are unsure its the capacitor, simply changing it will eliminate the first thing any competent tech will check.

Reminds me, I need to order a spare capacitor myself.

Yep, My brother just lost his air con for a few hours and that’s what it was Dave, just a capacitor.
