Hook grip is one of those things that may hurt in the moment, but it is an illusion. The pain should be embraced. If you think you are going to tear off the thumbnail, then get fucking excited.
All this to say, embracing pain is the price of admission to a 5 plate deadlift

I do 70 push ups every other day, 7 sets of 10-12. I turn my head to the side and lower myself to the floor until my face and chest tap the floor. Then I turn my head the other way for the next push and repeat. I tend to favor my right side, and doing push ups this way prevents shoulder injuries and gives me a more balanced build.I like when people do pussy pushups. 1" down, 1" up and call it a pushup.
