Best 2X12 cab? Scumback, Bogner, Mills

Looking to offload my 4X12 Vintage Marshall cab with v30's. I just don't need it for clubs. Being mic'd anyway. Looks cool but honestly not needed.

Play a Bogner XTC and 5153 (maybe a Friedman kitchen sink). Which of these do you think will give a fuller tone? I plan on having a V30 and the Scumback speaker mix.

OS or standard size. Don't overlook Mesa, Splawn, Orange, Port City, Stoneage.

That Scumback 2x12 is pricey, $600 without speakers. Splawn cab looks similiar for $200 less. Not sure if the Scumback has anything different.

I think standard size cabs will give you more bottom since they're deeper than OS cabs. OS cabs will give you a more woody, vintage tone.
 
I have a Avatar OS 2x12 loaded with Scumbacks and I have to admit it sounds pretty damn good. Just a little shy of my other 4x12's. :D
 
The TM212 is a good cab and has a removable panel in the back so it is open/closed. Flexable and sounds close to a 4x12.
 
I would just go with the Bogner OS 2x12. You can find one used for a good deal.
 
Best sounding 2x12 closed-back cabinets:
Mesa/Boogie
ENGL

BUT... it totally depends on your amp. If you want a neutral sounding cabinet, I'd go with Avatar cabs. But manufacturers tune their cabs to their amps. My ENGL rigs sound much better through my ENGL cabs than through my Boogie cabs. And on the flip side, my Boogie rigs sound best through Boogie cabs. The Boogie 2x12 Rectifier Traditional cab is amazing. It's my go-to cab whenever I don't need a 4x12.

A Marshall head sounds nice through a 1960a or 1936 cab with Celesion G12T75 speakers, but Boogie amps sound like shit with them.

Really, mixing and matching is nice in theory, but the manufacturers do a lot of the "optimization" work for you.
 
I can't say enough about the Port City OS 2x12. It doesn't take a up a lot of space, and it's simply massive sounding. It's an incredibly balanced cabinet that delivers what you put through it without EQing the sound for you.

+1. I love mine and picked it up for under $300 used in great condition.

Most oversized 212's are going to weigh 75lb. You are only shedding 25lbs to downsize. And, you will miss the fullness of a 412. All 3 of the 212's mentioned are good one's though. If were to contemplate another 212, I would go with a Port City. Order direct from the factory. They will install Scumbacks for you there.

I have a non-oversized Bogner 2x12 that I believe was originally intended for the Japanese market. Sounds incredibly full and punchy. I actually prefer it to my 4x12's.
