I'm looking for a Auto wah pedal for Kirk Hammett leads and solos but mainly to play The intro to bodies by drowning pool. I have a morally bad horsey 2 which does the job. However it seems to color my tone too much. I was hoping to save some real estate on the board by using auto wah instead. I'm mainly looking for one that will not suck or color the tone when it is turned off.

Neither of the tones you mention were actually done with an auto-wah - those are both done with traditional treadle wahs

I fucking love autowah but it is a VERY different sound.

For a space saving traditional wah, check out the AMT Japanese Girl wah

As far as autowahs, my two favorites are the Guyatone Wah Rocker and the EMMA Discombobulator. They sound vastly different - the Wah Rocker is super extreme and spiky (in a good way) while the Discombobulator is the traditional autowah sound with the option of reverse auto wah as well

I was going to say.., don't be so lazy ;) . Anything that is Kirk (so everything he plays) is played without any expression, sense of placement, and is just frantic rocking back and forth so consider it a good workout for your shin and ankle. For tone, I love the standard mini cry baby. Has a great tone. It cuts enough but is also thick enough to not be harsh. I like it best over more expensive wahs I own or have tried. Joyo also has a 69$ wah with a whole bunch of adjustments. Looks cool.

Also called envelope filters. I only tried the Keeley Neutrino and the EMMA Discombobulator and the Neutrino did not track the note very well at all. And from my very limited experience, the tracking of the note is very important. It seemed the Keeley had a tiny 'window' where it tracked correctly. The EMMA was just fun. Warren Haynes used one fwiw.

I had a Morley Bad Horsey Wah and when I used to gig that thing would turn into the noisiest sound on earth. It did ok in a band setting but I could hear the noise and it would drive me crazy. LOL! I am thinking about picking up a Jerry Cantrell Wah. I know you are looking at autowah solutions but maybe get a better standard wah?

The more I think about it the more I wonder if a looper or bypaaa switch to route my walh pedal in and out of the signal chain wouldn't be a better solution.

Lol yeah I know it wasn't an auto wah pedal on those records I just need something to have the wah sound at those parts but nothing specific.

Lol Kirk writes his way parts while brushing his teeth

I would just look at getting a Crybaby Bass mini wah which is actually an envelope filter.

It has a very small footprint, a huge range and is my go-to wah for guitar.

Extreme highs, extreme lows and has a good buffer so no tone suck... really impressive and expressive unit.
