I need a good power amp without spending a big chunck of change

What's your recommendations?

gonna be one of the super light SS amps.

don't mess with the forums, and surf ebay. prices were retarded before Christmas on them, haven't checked lately.

MosValve or Carvin DCM150.
Will the Carvin have enough power running 2 cabs in stereo you think?

i don't.

i ran my Axe through a QSC 2450 and that was barely equal to a 100watt tube amp.

Mark uses an ART SL2 and seems to get great results. Those are around $240 I believe.

I got a new in box ART SL2, if anyone's interested. I tried the AxeFx, didn't get into it, and now I've got a power amp with nothing to do....

Mine went for 185. I see them on the fractal site for that to 200.

I preferred the RT2/50. I think the tubes give it that full on amp feel.

I secont the HH V800. I had the Mosvalve MV962. If you are looking for best bang for the buck the MosValve is hard to beat.

IMO, the Axe really comes alive with a tube power amp. I know this is a long running debate, but I've always had better results running through the power section of a tube amp than any SS amp. I've got a Carvin DCM1540L and an Alesis RA300, you guys are more than welcome to come and A/B them.

i far prefer the tube power amps but for FRFR SS .

matrix gt800fx.

one rack space, 400 watts per channel, class AB mosfet power section. around $800 .

I had a post on this amp before. I would like to get one but they do not seem readily available in the USA yet. I am just going for the atomic active wedgies

Interesting thread... I was thinking the ONLY way to go with FRFR speakers was to get an FRFR based amplification system. Turns out the very product that Fractal promotes (Atomic) is, surprise surprise, a tube driven amplifier either out of cab or in cab. I'm lucky to have the Fryette 2/90/2, seeing what a lot of Axe users use on the Fractal forum, I'm guessing I'll be going with the Atomic FR Wedge [passive] run through the Fryette with the poweramp sims ON.

It's basically the same as the Atomic gig, only difference is - I already own the Fryette.

That being said, not sure what your budget is, but check the bay for used passive Wedges or Cabs, they're all in one units - not sure if you already have your speakers, but if not, there's a one-fell-swoop option for you.

Peace,
V.

I think you mean CAB sims on? :D

Nope, that's a given...

Poweramp sims ON.

I've run the Axe thru the Fryette with just the preamps on, no amp sims, and it sounds anemic. I know in all the literature out there, unless it's a completely neutral FRFR amp, or (ahem) the Atomic "amp" (which is just as much an amp if not less than the 2/90/2), with powersection sims ON, why can't I run the Axe through my 2/90/2 which has GOBS more power, more headroom, and probably more neutrality (loaded with KT88s) and clarity than the Atomic 50 watter with powersection sims ON...??? :dunno:

I'm awaiting word from Mr. Tom King on this very subject.

Get a used Carvin DCM1000. I liked mine better than the VHT2502 with the Axe. Heavy as fook, but great punch. I don't like digital amps for instruments applications.

I have a saved search for the FAAW and passive wedges on evil bay but they rarely show up and then go for almost what they are new. :gethim:

The Carvin DCM1540L is great if you want new. Only about $440 shipped.

Soooooooooooooooooo, the Axe units themselves are near list on ePay, and the Wedges/Cbas the same? Man, Fractal/Atomic must be macking it. Seriously. When's the last time you've seen this kinda price retention on anything?? :dunno:
